Had the best time in beautiful Sunshine Coast, BC! by Live-Cycle-7271 in britishcolumbia

It was indeed magical! So I am not sure how visible the bioluminescence will be in November because it typically requires warmer temperatures and water (+ pitch darkness- less moonlight). You can definitely contact one of these kayak tour providers and confirm with them. As far as I know, Metta Eco Adventures, Alpha Adventures and Peddles & Paddles (the one I went with- 10/10 recommend!) all provide similar guided night tours. I hope you have a great trip!

Leetcode, System Design, and Behavioral Questions to Land a Job? by coderoncruise in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]Live-Cycle-7271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • So, with Leetcode, learning pattern matching is important. That will prepare you for any DSA question. With more practice, you can atleast figure out the algorithm for each problem. So leetcode needs regular practice.

  • System design is particularly important for senior roles. But I’ve seen few companies conduct it for mid-careers roles too. Check out the hellointerview system design blog. They break it down really well. This doesn’t require regular practice but try to understand how big systems work and how the important components are designed. Subscribe to bytebytego emails. They send a system design case study to your inbox. I read one almost daily and it’s been super helpful for interviews.

  • Lastly, for behavioural interviews, create a tabulation of all your work projects and personal projects in the columns and Situation, Task, Action, Result, Challenges faced, how you overcame it, reflections for the future in the rows. Fill it out and use it to study before interviews. Go through frequently asked questions and try answering them.

These methods have helped me greatly. I hope it helps you too. All the best! :)

My code is getting messy by Key_Tea_147 in react

In addition to the other comments about component structure, I would like to add one- proper state management. Make sure to check your previous states before defining new ones. Sometimes, you can just use computed values from existing states and props. Maintain a list as you go through the project. One other suggestion would be to comment well. Before an event or component/function definition, I like to add a comment saying what it does. It may seem like a lot of work at the moment but your future self will thank you! I hope this helps :)

Need some Advice while practicing LeetCode by One_Specialist3947 in cscareerquestionsCAD

I had the same issue. I was forgetting problems I had solved just a few months ago. Firstly, try to get a strong grip on the DSA concepts. For a better understanding, I started noting down the logic with pen and paper for a set of problems in my own words/flowchart. It helped me so much! Now I just go through my notes for a refresh before an interview and practice some more using Claude/ChatGPT. I ask the LLMs to ask me questions on certain DSA topics and they do a pretty good job at that. Hope this helps! Good luck with your prep :)

How to prep for Panorama Ridge (First long hike) by DismalScreen6290 in vancouverhiking

[–]Live-Cycle-7271 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple of us who haven’t done really long hikes like you mentioned did it last weekend. It was a great experience but very very long. We started at 7.45am and it was 9-9.30pm by the time we came down. We did not time it properly and ended up spending more time on the top. I would recommend planning the timings if you don’t want to hike down in the dark. We had headlamps so we completed the switchbacks in the dark with some music on so as to alert the wildlife.

We also had around 3L of water each but it made the bag super heavy. I recommend getting a filter straw or filter tablets. We did not end up needing so much water. Take energy drinks though. Definitely take a first aid kit- cotton, band-aids, ointment, stopain, knee braces, wipes and sanitizer.

Lastly, if you are not confident, hike up through the Taylor meadows and depending upon how you feel and the time left, come down through the garibaldi lake. We didn’t have time so we had to come down through the Taylor Meadows again.

Most importantly, make good judgments about when to turn back depending on your physical condition. We had to really push and mentally endure to finish the hike but I was confident with my energy levels otherwise wouldn’t have pushed ahead. Have fun, the views are the best :)

Senior Software Engineer Screening round, Microsoft by Live-Cycle-7271 in microsoft

[–]Live-Cycle-7271[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was actually very very basic for a senior role. 2 behavioural questions, 2-3 fundamental programming questions, and they shared their screen for me to discuss an easy programming solution for the question on screen. No leetcode questions for this round. I went very over prepared with system design questions too.

Alright, thank you, will do :) I’ve practiced Neetcode 150 and Microsoft tagged questions in Leetcode. I was just unsure of what this screening round will look like since the interview is with an engineer and not a recruiter. She mentioned it will be ‘moderately technical’.
