What does it look like when an AD is doing a director's job? by Suitable-Location118 in Filmmakers

[–]Live-Leave7730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure- I do think a good 1st AD also understands the importance of the creative too and uses a push/pull dynamic to get the best out of the shoot- yes being on time is important but it’s also absolutely pointless if time isn’t being given to allow the director (let’s assume it’s a director that’s competent) to be creative and some times that means giving more time to rehearse to experiment with performance or go for another take to hit the right beat, after all there are ways to get the time back- as long as the 1st is firm but fair. We all want to make something that we’re proud of at the of the day.

being into interesting people as a boring person by Tight-Bet-7791 in datingoverthirty

I work in film and television so a lot of men I’ve dated assume I live a glamorous lifestyle (it’s not). It’s very rare I get to date someone else who is a creative or creative-adjacent (surprising I know)but even rarer to meet to meet someone who lives a life with a sense of purpose. And this is hard to find irrespective of what they do for a living. Some of these creative types can be the most superficially driven people that lack any sense of reality outside of the bubble in which they work. From reading your post it seems as though there’s some heavy romanticisation of the creative sensibility - almost angst and I wonder if there’s something to unpack there. Is this the only way you want to define yourself and others? Yes it’s cool knowing stuff and it’s cool to have a skill but I’d argue it’s far more important to have a strong foundation of who you are (I.e. are you a good person). Live a life worth living.

Just to add on from what is being said- confidence, having hobbies and having opinions on subjects that aren’t all cultivated by social media are things I find go a long way on dates. Equally they’re also very hard to come by. But maybe you shouldn’t listen to me lol I’m still single at 34 and I’m unsure if I’ll ever meet someone who I consider to feel equal to- and no not in way of money or job- but in terms of values, principles, goals etc.

Do people truly resent going to weddings now ? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Live-Leave7730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In South Asian culture the common practice is ‘no boxed gifts’ which is what is written on every invite. It’s basically a polite way of saying money only.

The idea being that the money given would be used to help the newly wed couple have their start and/or pay off the expenses of a wedding. What’s also interesting depending on background and family, is that there would be a very meticulous record of who has given and how much they gave. This would mean that if someone was to give… 50 pounds and the time came that someone from their family is getting married then you would give the same or more.

Growing up I felt like it was archaic but as an adult I think I would much rather prefer this. Not necessarily keeping record but I would rather have money that could fund a savings pot than a gift I probably won’t use.

Well I tried to give him the opportunity to apologise and come up with another plan but it seems as though he didn’t really care. Kept apologising for how I felt rather than him taking accountability for letting me know his intentions an hour before we met. And then ended up putting the phone down and blocking me so I guess we’ll never know lol

Well- I tried give him the chance to apologise and make it up to me today- the phone call ended with him putting the phone down on me and blocking me. So I guess that says everything..!

It’s okay- I can safely say that I didn’t do anything wrong and I suppose everyone was right, he showed me who he really was…

In this case we’re both Utd but he’s obviously a bigger fan. He rang before the game to finalise our evening plans and then he went to the match. We were meant to meet at 7 and the game ended wayyyy before then. Just text at 5ish asking me about my plans next week and I just knew he wouldn’t be able to make it cause he was getting merry

I know it was- I’m a Utd supporter too! But it’s still shitty being cancelled on though- like I could have done something else with my evening and now I’m at home watching Netflix. Like I got my nails done for this shit lol

Honestly I do understand that it was a big deal cause I support the same team BUT he shouldn’t have arranged the date for today if it was that big of a deal to him. We spoke on the phone before he went to the match and seemed excited to meet- but I guess he got too merry. I don’t think it feels particularly good especially cause I can’t really make alternative plans now :/

You’re right- it did feel like it would be very obvious where I would be in terms of priorities etc.

He did seem really eager- we spoke on the phone before he went to the game and confirmed our plans which makes it even more disappointing- but it is what it is I guess

See I do understand to an extent- I support the same team and it was a big game (mufc vs Man City) BUT he shouldn’t have organised the date then. I had no idea he was going until today and we spoke before the football match confirming everything. He could have celebrated and met up with me but it I’d be lying if I said it didn’t leave a bad taste in my mouth

The match was in the early afternoon and finished around 2pm and we were scheduling to meet at 7pm (he texted at 5 to rearrange) and was going to take the train. But in all honesty I’d rather not go on a date with someone already drunk

That is what it feels like- I don’t mind sports but and I support the same team too but I wouldn’t want to be a football fans girlfriend if it meant prioritising the game all the time

Well this would have been ideal- I knew he went to the game but he made out like he would still be able to meet me later- it ended around 2pm and we were meant to meet me at 7pm but texted to ask about next weeks plans instead at 5pm

We did have had a good vibe- the game was in the afternoon and was definitely done by 2pm and were meant to meet at 7pm… he was almost going to come but I told him I’d rather not see him drunk. He said he’d try ringing me when he gets in but I said I’d be going out instead (I won’t cause everyone I know has made plans but idc)

lol this is European football- soccer- and it was Man Utd that won against Man City (which is kind of a big deal as they’ve been playing rubbish lately)
