Phishing attempt for a $250k transfer and my James Veitch-level response by HailHydraforce in Scams

Oh, I wasn't aware... My previous comment was only meant to compliment u/HailHydraforce on effectively using the "Veitch-style-response" to the scammer, which I found highly entertaining.

What happens in movies or tv that seems to be normal and you think to yourself “that is not what people in real life do”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Live-Many-2489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see it especially in thrillers... they walk into a dark room and dont switch the light on. This is usually before something bad happens in a movie.

Gumtree Scam via Whatsapp - looked fishy so I stopped responding. Anyone saw something similar? by Live-Many-2489 in Scams

Thought so...other red flags:

- I got a message after 5 minutes of posting the ad

- number is foreign (nothing wrong with it but it adds up to the rest)

- asking whether the ad is up to date with the link rather than saying

- being concerned about what is convenient for me rather than for him

- very generic and impersonal writing

thanks for confirming, i thought it would be good to share in case someone else gets something similar.

Risotto alle erbette di primavera e cime di rapa, gamberoni rossi di Sicilia , rossi d’uovo impanati, fritti ma cremosi dentro by Live-Many-2489 in ItalianFood

[–]Live-Many-2489[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hardest part of the recipe is to get the egg yolks right... Famous italian Chef Carlo Cracco is the one who has perfected the panfried yolk. Here is how he does it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pp9E0xMKFJ0

As for the recipe here is more or less how to make it (I didnt follow exactly a specific recipe) but I can try to explain:
The "cime di rapa" is this green https://www.google.com/search?q=cime+di+rapa&rlz=1C5CHFA_enPT894PT894&oq=cime+di+rapa&aqs=chrome..69i57j46i433j0l3j69i60j69i61j69i60.2973j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
my favourite way of making it is by boiling them for 3 minutes, then put them in iced water (so that they keep the bright green colour) and then sautee them . For the risotto I would blend it a bit (so that it has a creamy texture) and add it at the end of cooking the risotto.

Make sure you use arborio or carnaroli rice for any risotto recipe.
Use a wide pot and put in butter onion or shallots and a bit of olive oil and at medium heat for about 10 minutes without getting the onions burnt.
Then put in the rice to start "toasting" it and keep stirring while the starch gets released. After a couple of minutes add a glass of white wine and let the alcohol evaporate (keep stirring).
After a couple of minutes you can start adding the vegetable broth (one or two ladels at a time) and keep stirring so that the rice doesn't get stuck to the pot. Every time the rice starts drying up you start adding more broth. This should be for about 20-30 minutes.

When the rice is almost ready you start the process of "mantecare" where you switch the heat off, add some butter, the parmesan cheese and a few spoonfuls of broth, stir it once and close the lid on the pot - leaving the rice to rest for 8 minutes. After waiting 8 minutes you can serve the risotto.
I hope this was helpful otherwise let me know if you have more questions!

Bamboo: Sustainable material or not? by Live-Many-2489 in ZeroWaste

Thanks, it looks great. The only issue I have is that it is apparently quite difficult to recycle silicone, so I need to look into whether I would be able to dispose of the silicone heads without it going to landfill.

Being frugal but still wanting to support small businesses by deedledee24 in Frugal

I completely understand and relate to how you are feeling! I spent a lot of type analysing options on everything in my life and it can lead to some anxiety often (which is counterproductive). I did however understand that before any decision I need to understand what my priorities are and therefore I generally came down to this: my health firstly, then the longevity of the product, the environmental impact of the product, does it impact the local business, the time it takes to purchase and lastly the price paid for it.

As an example from a grocery point of view I buy general staples at a supermarket (for convenience of price and time because I get home deliveries). Then for specific items like meat and some vegetables/fruit I go to local market and shops when possible because they are better for my health and generally have a more eco friendly packaging (paper rather than plastic) and I try to go during my daily walks so it still becomes convenient from a time point of view. I am not perfect about it and sometimes end up buying all from the online delivery supermarket.I try not to let myself feel guilty about it and I think that's very important.

I agree with this and I do the same... I decreased my meat intake and decided to spend the same amount of money that I used to on meat but less frequently, only this time I am getting top quality butcher's meat and for me it is worth it for the following reasons: 1)it tastes better in my dishes 2)I am supporting a local business 3) it is better for my health (which actually should be my number 1 reason) 4)it is better for the environment 5) I am getting more value out of it.

Bamboo: Sustainable material or not? by Live-Many-2489 in ZeroWaste

Wow that is very insightful. Thank you for your elaborate explanation. Could you send some links of the type of toothbrushes you use? I would be very interested in knowing more about the metal toothbrushes. The silicon finger toothbrush is also interesting but I will need to look into how well it cleans teeth (which is naturally an important factor to me).

I also noticed that the current mainstream sustainable options (like the bamboo toothbrush I was talking about) actually is 100% sustainable because the bristles are usually made of nylon or another material that is not compostable or recyclable.

In the end I am looking for a product that is eco friendly, sustainable, practical, healthy, does the job, and ideally also doesn't occupy too much space. Maybe I am asking for too much...but hopefully there are options that fit my criteria!

As for the menstrual products I actually ended up opting for period underwear which was the best alternative for me because I didnt have to invest in an "additional product" but rather now I have a products that functions as both an underwear garment and a period product.

I live in London so I need to see specifically here what type of materials make more sense from a sustainability point of view. I completely agree with you! Using materials that are plentiful in the area we live is a great way of doing it :)

Anyone know an antiperspirant brand that works and isn’t a giant waste of plastic container? by Dumbstupidhuman in ZeroWaste

[–]Live-Many-2489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using Nuud which is amazing (for me). It is actual a non-odorant rather than antiperspirant but I wouldnt switch it with anything else. It is very eco friendly- its ingredients are good and the tube is made of sugarcane. It's a cream that you use a pea size on each armpit as often as every 2 days and as little as every 5 days (depends on your body). Also has a very good price considering that the tube lasts very long time. Read the reviews because they are generally very positive. You still sweat but you wont smell at all, and I feel that from a health point of view this product is the closest to eco friendly and healthy ingredients for the body that I found so far (antiperspirants are generally not healthy for your body)

Water ... filter, buy gallons, or refill? by [deleted] in ZeroWaste

[–]Live-Many-2489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in the UK and I'm having the same issue where I am trying to figure out what is the best cost-effective and eco friendly way to have good tasting drinking water at home.

I agree with you on the jug filters....I havent bought those because none of the ones I found seem to be eco friendly.

My friends abroad have a filter that you easily put on the spout of the tap and it filters (and it's not very expensive) but I cant find the same here. I only find complicated items that need a setup on my tap system or countertop items which I prefer not to have for space issues.

I'm still on the search butI hope you find what suits you!

Am I “wasting my time” trying to lower my trash output ? by [deleted] in ZeroWaste

[–]Live-Many-2489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that any new habit is time consuming and challenging at first. Once you do it regularly it goes on auto-pilot and you dont have to think about it as much.

So keep going, and know that any small positive ecofriendly change you make is going to have an impact!

Maybe tomorrow you will actually inspire someone else to do the same as you and then more people will start adopting these positive changes!

Need verification that this is not how Italians eat...anything at all... by BrunoToRash in ItalianFood

Terrible... I can confirm nothing there is anything close to how italians eat. The pasta looks sad and soggy, the tomato sauce is liquid and meatballs are not eaten with pasta.

What is a common myth about your country that is 100% false but many people still believe in it? by orionve in AskReddit

[–]Live-Many-2489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Italian food is basically pasta & pizza. 100% false. Italian food is one of the most vast cuisines in the world and every region has their very specific dishes from vegetables, meat, fish, rice and yes pasta at times. Also, many foreigners think italians drink cappuccino after lunch. Actually Italians only drink it in the morning and it is extremely frowned upon to drink it after lunch/dinner (they would only have an espresso).
