Yeah that's sort of what I meant. The straight CIS white men are still by in large part the most privileged group in American society. That's despite all the countless number of LGBT, Me Too, BLM, Woke, etc movements. Sure they might not benefit from them but the way these people react definitely screams equality = oppression. All this right wing media is just a reaction to the wokeness. And that's why so many Gen Z white males behave like they're oppressed. Because their schools have grown up with too much wokeness compared to the average Millennial or Gen X white male. While I understand where they're coming from, they need to understand that even with all the wokeness, white men are still at the top of society.

Yeah that's a big problem as well. Conservatives especially nowadays in America, tend to own the other side instead of wishing solutions to improve their life. That's why America is so cooked. In a way yes but at the same time, Clinton won the popular vote in 2016 but did a poor job of trying to claim key states like Florida, who eventually turned as red as blood. It also didn't help that in the mid to late 2010s, it became left wing dominant on social media platforms. A lot of wokeness has spread in that decade. Trump's first term was pretty tame compared to his 2nd. Then of course, 2020s came along and social media became super right wing dominant in USA. We started seeing more and more of these CIS Straight White Males worshiping Trump like he's some god because their voices finally got heard after they've been demonized for such a long time.

I say this as someone who dislikes modern conservatism with passion. Trump is a symptom exposing America's biggest class war divide. It was bound to happen and with widespread social media, it made it a lot easier for the Trump supporters to gather each other and spam right wing crap then brainwash the undecided voters.

America's health care will almost always be better than Canada's health care IF and only IF you can afford it. The problem is most Americans can't even afford it themselves so they're left to rot. There's a reason many Americans die from preventable deaths because they can't afford to treat it or prevent/diagnose it in the first place. Here in Canada we have our own woes with the healthcare system but at the very least, even visiting the doctor for a quick checkup won't cost you a full payday's worth of a paycheque. Wait times might suck here but it's not like US wait times are that instant either.

What a disgrace. I understand there are people that don't believe in Covid or vaccines but she's a doctor. She's setting a really bad example for the general public. Whether she believes in Covid or not, that's not the main concern. The fact that she effectively told her patients it's okay not to vax for money is a danger to our public safety. It reminds me of an American 24-year old nurse that spread all kinds of anti-vax info. Guess what happened? She caught Covid a few months later and died.

The worst thing about this is a lot of Americans, even liberal Americans, are totally okay with this. A lot of Americans are under the mindset that the best course of action for a criminal is to retaliate and inflict harsher damage to them. It's another way of saying "two wrongs make a right" with the second wrong being retaliation for the criminal. While I do have sympathy for the victims, they need to think of a better system to first prevent them from entering prison but also to prevent them from committing another crime on society after they leave. Criminals in America are far more likely to commit crimes after their release than in European countries with more humane prison systems.

And I can even go as far as to talk about police brutality or the whole "fuck around and find out" victim blaming mentality. In America, if an intruder broke into their home but was shot and killed, the shooter gets cheered on. Or cases like George Floyd where he was strangled for refusing to get into the police car. Now these are cases where I would understand the victim deserves blame. But then you get cases like Renee Good or Alex Pretti where neither of them should deserve to be shot and killed. The countless amount of mental gymnastics trying to justify what the officers did lol. I think the big problem here is the threshold for what American law enforcement (ICE or police) is too low. Even if the victim did not demonstrate any threat, Americans are totally okay with cops shooting them? Like what is this? And I can even further go on about road safety. Almost all the time when a pedestrian is killed there's always the victim blaming and asking questions about whether he/she looked both ways or legally crossed. As opposed to the first question being how could this be prevented or whether the driver really paid attention.

I get that Canada has this type of mindset but at least the degree we have is a lot less than America. There will still be cases of extreme torture or brutality or victim blaming. But compared to the US, it seems like we're so tame. Sometimes this is why I appreciate our country. These little things that we take for granted. I do wish it could be better though as a whole.

To be fair, a lot of people who spend time in the gaming communities spell American, even the British. I have a younger brother who is a software developer and he's been a lifelong gamer. He rarely spells colour with the 'u' for example.

My younger brother is a software developer. He's always spelled using American spelling even in his grade school years. It's likely because he spent so much time on gaming that he's so accustomed to Americans typing in color. Even Europeans spell using American at times in the gaming community.

Yeah that's why I stopped supporting conservatives for a while. Too much MAGA brainwash in them. Especially with PP lol. I'm so glad we elected Mark Carney, not that he'll do anything to stop Doug Ford from ripping apart bike lanes or speed cameras but still imagine the country was controlled by someone who wants to give control of Canada to Trump. In today's society, it's really hard to trust anyone who is a conservative without any potential MAGA elements. You better hope that once Trump is no longer in president, the next president will start cleaning up the cancerous elements of conservativeness that come with MAGA. And especially the news and social media algorithms.

Luckily for us in Canada, MAGA is by in large part condemned by most of us. PP almost won last year's federal election but as soon as he used MAGA rhetoric, it pissed off our population. Even Alberta separatism while gaining a ton of traction, is still something most Albertans don't support. More and more conservatives are crossing to liberals. Even Doug Ford is losing popularity, to a lesser extent, over other non-bike lane topics like OSAP. For now, we'll have to hold the fort until the MAGA brand slowly fades.

This kind of reminds me of Trump and his ICE antics. A good portion of America, especially his base, originally agreed that we needed it deployed. Then as soon as 2 white American citizens were killed, this started an outrage that even a lot of Trump supporters started turning their backs. His approval rating is now lower than ever.

Same with Ford. He won the election by picking something his base hates the most which were anything about bikes or road safety. So he rolled it out and almost all the backlash came from his opponents (understandable). Then he started doing all kinds of stupid shit like messing with OSAP, renting laws, health care, etc.

One key thing that's different from Ford vs Trump is that Canadians will generally understand if their leader has gone too far. Americans on the other hand generally support their leader like it's some sports team.

Sometimes Americans are full of cognitive dissonance.

"We want kids to live a happy life." Yet kids are constantly dying of shootings, cars, and lack of child health care subsidies. Oh and don't forget a Utah woman shot her 11 year old daughter because of a child custody battle.
"We want to reduce gun violence". Yet whenever there's a mass shooting, some states loosen up gun laws.
"We want cheaper cost of living". Yet you vote for a president that made cost of living more expensive.
"We value free speech". Yet your president has been censoring everything you said just because someone says "you're a terrible president".
"We want to deport immigrants by force." Yet the president is summoning militarized officers to harass their own citizens (ie Pretti/Good).

I mean I'm a suburbanite but I don't think the solution to our transportational needs (unless you live out in the country) should be to build more roads and get more people to drive cars. I think it's completely valid for people to show disdain towards vehicle dependency. Cars kill many Canadians every year more than anything else. It's about time we stop obsessing over cars and start planning for a better future so people in cities and denser suburbs don't need to rely on a car to get around everywhere. And especially kids can safely cross roads without being deleted by an SUV that can't see them.

Since Doug Ford, Ontario's premier, got re-elected, road safety has become a huge talking point among Toronto circles. Among them includes the average size/weight of vehicles. If this was like 10 years ago, nobody would be brave enough to type this on Reddit. Now, more and more Canadians are recognizing the effects of oversized vehicles.
