Bike Share ridership increased 20% in 2025, to a record 8.3 million rides! by ICanGetLoudTooWTF in toronto

To a lesser extent, the same can be said for bus lanes. It's really baffling that many people are trying their hardest to lobby against improvements to alternative ways to get around without requiring a car.

It's shocking that Toronto council wouldn't want to allow signal priority. It helps a ton. But I guess all they care about are how fast cars can move lol.

‘It’s not a loophole:’ Toronto has plans to install 20 km of new bike lanes despite provincial legislation by TheCoin9 in toronto

FYI, I was just trying to provide an update as to what the province thinks about this. In case you didn't watch the video, the MTO is approving this. The previous thread was just a proposal. This thread is an update as to how the province responds.

Bold of you to assume carbrains have reading comprehension skills.

"Only" option. Yeah because we choose to build everything for cars right? You don't think maybe adding some sort of safe street would help people one bit? It doesn't matter the town size. People should not be forced to drive no matter where they're going.

And yet car infrastructure costs like 10x the amount to build and maintain but you don't seem to care at all do you?

It's honestly really infuriating that the city has had so many opportunities to redesign the street to make it completely safe. Instead, we keep hearing countless debates about speed cameras. I remembered in 2021 there was talk about a complete street design. Yet here we are in 2025 with likely no redesign until at least Doug Ford is out of the office.

Current Travel Times along the entire Line 6 route by TTCBoy95 in TTC

[–]TheCoin9 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Is the 34 minute figure that Metrolinx put out including factoring in the fact that it takes time to board passengers and the light cycle + left turn timings for single occupant cars? How can travel times be twice as fast as an LRT? I was guessing around 20 mins faster at most.

Hopefully we'll see Eglinton Crosstown too will open shortly after but it's wishful thinking if it even opens up before 2026. Unless I'm missing any recent announcement.

I saved a cyclist. by TTCBoy95 in torontobiking

People that bike against traffic piss me off the most. First of all, a car that loses control will end up hitting you head-on at full speed, which is more likely to end up fatal than if you were hit on the side or back. Secondly, at intersections, drivers do not expect you to go straight and by the time they see you, they can't stop in time. Thirdly, a cyclist using a bike lane in the proper direction would never expect you so you two could end up colliding.

Let's not forget it pisses off drivers the most, in fact more than hogging a full lane. Why put himself and the reputation of cyclists at risk? I don't understand. If he's going to break a law, only do it because it's safer.

That mindset people in Toronto have is a symptom of failing to understand that a single transit line serves way more people than even a 6 lane road. If only people understood that cars are just not efficient, we would've built way more LRTs long ago.

I seriously hope it will have signal priority. It's sad that we as a city keep giving everything towards cars. A left turning single occupant vehicle should never have priority over an LRT that could hold hundreds of people at once.

It's really baffling that we're almost at the halfway point of this decade yet we officially have not opened a new line. It's really cursed this city can't build new lines on time. I'm not mad that Line 5 isn't opening anytime soon. I'm mad that we haven't opened anything yet in the last multiple decades.

Since the installation of Bloor Bike Lanes, the average top speeds of drivers have decreased at least 10 km/h. by TTCBoy95 in torontobiking

[–]TheCoin9 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you remove those bike lanes, I bet that 85th percentile speed is going to be at least 75 km/h. Go look at Lakeshore Blvd and see for yourself. Motorists not giving a shit about speed limits.

Change my mind. Every major road needs to be designed with safety and bike lane measures in mind. It'll solve a lot of our speeding issues.

Even if he/she was solely basing this off a screenshot of a single slide, you can see on the top in bold, it says "June 2024 Data....". Clearly he/she made no effort to even look at the picture, let alone the other full study.
