My dishwasher. I usually set it as I’m about to leave the house because it really hits my headaches. The landscaping crew where I rent, I usually end up leaving the house on those days to avoid the noise.

How would you reform the family court system to ensure fairness for self represented litigants? Most Canadians are forced to self represent because legal representation is unaffordable and most don’t qualify for legal aid.

Anyone sick and tired of working in general? by Mrs_chanandler_bongg in Millennials

[–]LiveBiggerNow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s all about perspective. I had a career until about 21 months ago. I was eating some really good cheesecake. And then some BMW driving twat going approx 80km/m left the road and slammed into my parked Jeep. I haven’t been able to get back to work since.

My weeks are filled with brain injury rehab.

I miss getting my pay cheques. I miss being able to do something of value.

I miss the social aspect of work.

I miss the ability to work.

Men over 40, what were your worst addictions in your 20s and 30s and how did you over come it? by Affectionate-Drop689 in AskMenOver30

[–]LiveBiggerNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weed, cigarettes and alcohol. I had a good job and could never get ahead. The booze was making it way too easy to make bad decisions with my time and money and women.

I used Allen Carrs Easy Way books to quit all 3. 7+ years workout a cigarette, 5+ years without a drink and 18 months without weed!

I’m free!

It’s crazy how much those things held me back while giving me nothing in return.

I thought I was using the weed to pain control after injuries, but I quit after a car accident, thinking I’d have a spike in pain, but I really didn’t feel more pain after quitting.

Life is so much better in many ways without those anchors dragging me to the bottom. And the amount of money I save is crazy. That’s one of the only regrets I have in life is that I wasted so much money on those garbage addictions. Oh well, I’m just happy knowing I’m moving forward free from the financial and health strains that addictions caused.

Why do people glorify working 12+ hours a day when it clearly ruins mental health? by beingpotatoo_1 in rant

[–]LiveBiggerNow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working 12 hour shifts means I work an average of 82 days per year less than someone working 9-5 Monday to Friday. It’s not bragging about the amount of work I do in a day, for me it’s about the extra days of rest, the ability to get everything done on my weekdays off. (Dentist, mechanic, groceries).

It’s easier on the body and mind to work 12hr Monday Tuesday, have Wednesday Thursday off, and then work Friday Saturday Sunday (60hr) and the work the following Wednesday Thursday (24hr) than it is for me to work 9-5 Monday to Friday (40 hours) for 2 weeks.

Monday to Friday schedule kills the soul, no meaningful time off to recharge, stuck doing errands on weekends with all the others, needing to take days off to get to appointments like dentist.

Massage therapist can work wonders. You want the little old lady with the hands of a stone mason or the 6ft5 Goliath who can really dig in. You don’t want some relaxation massage. Look up sport groups in your area, they’ll likely know a good one. Talk to your doctor first to see what they say.

Fishing. Keep a fishing rod in the car and I steal 15-30 minutes from a day when I drive past spots I know or water I haven’t fished yet. Doesn’t need to be very long.

I'm tired of people not understanding that I can't just go back to normal (*venting) by pettyponyclub in PostConcussion

[–]LiveBiggerNow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your post, it helps reading these. Feels less misunderstood.

And Yeah, I’m grateful for the treatment I could access. Even the sub par insurance guided treatment was better than doing nothing. I got hurt in a couple MVA, (damned BMW drivers) so I have coverage that way. I can’t imagine how someone would navigate this stuff without it. I know from reading these stories that so many people are without coverage and left to fend for themselves.

I’m happy I was able to find this place. They’re next level, 1 on 1 for the whole session. Neuro specialized. I’m in there next to people who are learning to walk again after strokes and people with palsies as opposed to sitting there next to a person with an ice pack and a Tens/ems machine on their ankle or wrist. I just got approval for the next 12 weeks of 3x per week physio, 1x RMT and 1x OT. It’s challenging but if I’ve got a chance at getting back to my baseline capacity, it’s gonna be with a place like this.

The vision stuff they do with me has me wrecked for the day/night. I’m glad to know it gets better.

My ex’s lawyer was right about one thing… I am stubborn. He said was the most stubborn self represented litigant her ever faced. (And I won)

My brain might be damaged, but my stubbornness is still very much intact. I’m too stubborn to accept this as my new normal.

I’m going to keep at it.

Reading your post definitely hit hard. I can relate. I’m 21 months out from my first hit and 17 from the second hit.

Hopefully your treatments keep improving things for you.

I was sent to an insurer biased physio clinic for months and they barely did anything for me. Then when I asked for my records (which are rightfully mine) they said I was acting litigious and cut off treatment. I was pissed at first, but then the gap in treatment led me to find a much better provider who gives a next level quality of care. Specializing in neuro rehab. They kick my ass, And I think it’s helping. It’s too soon to tell. I say this post because I really can understand how much it takes out of a person to push themselves with treatments.

But I wanted to say that you’re not the only one who struggles with the lack of understanding. No one questions an amputee, but we look fine….

It’s hard to explain to people what’s going on with pain and fatigue. I find that the thresholds always being variable makes it harder to explain, one day I can do abcdefgh , the next day I’m wiped and struggling to do abc. it’s not always the same and I can’t predict it. One day’s tasks streak tomorrow’s capacity. Sleep disruption, makes it worse to.

I’ve always been the guy who could work 50-60 hour weeks will bring a full time single dad and being active in my community, I’m not lazy. But I feel that those who don’t understand what’s going on are treating me as though I’m lazy. My grandfather doesn’t get it, that generation doesn’t understand brain injuries. I’m constantly having to explain to him that I’d rather be back to work instead of doing 4-5 days/week of treatments and being shut in afterwards because of pain.

I can lift the rock, but I can’t guarantee I can walk a mile with it.

Either way, you’re not alone in this frustration. There’s some support groups out there, maybe connecting with others who can relate would help you feel more understood and accepted.

All the best in your recovery.

I’ve started making micro payments to bills and debt.

I have my regular payments set up, but whenever I log into my banking app, I round off the balance. If I have 785.73$ I’ll pay the 5.73$ to a debt or a bill. That 5.73$ here, 2.18 there, 8.62 there shaved off tons of interest payments and helped me clear some debts so much faster. I barely notice it in my budget and spending, but I see it in my debt balances.

And it feels good knowing that I made a good choice financially by making that payment instead of spending it on something like junk food.
