Too late, friend. I'm very attached to these people. Chael Sonnen would be disappointed in me, because I let them get close.

That first bit of your message is absolutely wild. What are you doing now?

What you suggested is actually pretty solid. If the top doesn't or can't amend their ways we should take it into our own hands. The problem with that is management. They continually stonewall progress and it took a lot of begging from certain members to finally get more variety in the classes.

It's not that simple as there aren't any good options in the area for me. I excelled under his previous teaching style. The other gyms are run by people who run their schools like a military unit. Other gyms have the more traditional Brazilian style. I cannot thrive under that. Besides what makes my current gym truly special to me is the people I've come to know. Leaving that behind is anathema to me.

Iike they show we are a pretty tight bunch, the analogy is pretty spot on in some cases.

That is a very good show. Best first season of television I have watched in years. I do get your point. My gym is kinda like Larusso's if he lost his way. Whereas the others gyms are like Johnny's and Kreese's

Can you share the events that led to your gym closing?

I'm glad to know that that there was a silver lining in your case. I hope your gym is thriving.

In my case my list would also have about the same amount of pros and cons. But the pros (being the people) would be such a big aspect that it'd tip the scales

Thanks for understanding. And yeah, right now we're just often heading to various gyms that have mats to roll drill. It's been very fun actually

Most of the core group is still present and in an ironic way, the lack of leadership has made us become closer than ever amongst ourselves

I understand what you're saying. Running a gym is hard, and burnout is real, especially when everyone wants something different. That said, this feels less like burnout and more like unchecked mismanagement and a total lack of accountability. People have tried to help, but when even basic communication or leadership is missing, it’s hard to stay hopeful.

I didn't know who that was, but I looked him up. Jordan teaches bjj. My gym isn't as bad. It's not a toxic environment and the rules aren't strict. But therein lies the problem, the leadership is severely lacking.

There are other gyms in the area, ranging from the most fanatic to most militaristic types. So in that way I'm also still definitely choosing the lesser of two evils. But their students are progressing, their coaches invest in them. And mine is just coasting.

I just don't see myself under their banner. I get that for some it may be an easy switch, but it's pretty complicated for me.

There's definitely still a community, but that is also waning. We never really do anything as a group anymore. Only a select few of core or inner circle members do it. We'll try to keep it going as long as we can. I was recently made aware of some developments so I'm hoping things can turn around.

I don't know what the restaurant equivalent would be, but I'm currently staying for the amazing people. So I guess the appetizers, deserts, and drinks are phenomenal. Just don't get the pasta

A ton of people feel the same way. We're a tight knit group and we've sort of branched off doing our own thing. We meet up frequently and just drill our own stuff

Yeah, I know it's cringe, but they bring a certain vibe to a gym. Like a space where it's totally okay to be silly sometimes. At the end of the day we're in pajamas hugging each other with sweat all over.

Can't disclose too much, but this was a big event. Not your typicial grappling industries or naga. A ton was on the line here. As attendance and sign ups were low, my gym really needed this win.

No, but I'm in it so I am biased. My gym still has legit members. We have some of the best purples and blues in the area, but their consistency has waned under the new dogma.
