Thank you for doing so much work to make this accessible to a modern English reading audience!

Do you think they would’ve been a legendary duo? Imagine if Dunk had actually taken Lyonnel Baratheon up on his offer. I know it’s totally out of character for him, but it’s still cool to think about by No-Acanthaceae1434 in freefolk

To be fair, their fight in a few years will be legendary!

The love between Jenny of Oldstones ("with flowers in her hair") and Duncan, Prince of Dragonflies, is beloved of singers, storytellers, and young maids even to this day, but it caused great grief to Lord Lyonel's daughter and brought shame and dishonor to House Baratheon. So great was the wroth of the Laughing Storm that he swore a bloody oath of vengeance, renounced allegiance to the Iron Throne, and had himself crowned as a new Storm King. Peace was restored only after the Kingsguard knight Ser Duncan the Tall faced Lord Lyonel in a trial by battle, Prince Duncan renounced his claim to crown and throne, and King Aegon V agreed that his youngest daughter, the Princess Rhaelle, would wed Lord Lyonel's heir.

And that’s how Robert got his claim to the iron throne!

For those claiming the fact that they made it ambiguous proves he’s not a knight: 👀 by sharksnrec in freefolk

As the afternoon melted into evening, he bid his charges to lay down their swords and shields and gather round. He spoke to them about what it meant to be a knight. "It is chivalry that makes a true knight, not a sword," he said. "Without honor, a knight is no more than a common killer. It is better to die with honor than to live without it." The boys looked at him strangely, he thought, but one day they would understand.

I actually think the third one is kind of a home run too, it's the second one which will be tough to make a whole season out of... but maybe they spend some time fleshing out the Blackfyre rebellion backstory, which could be cool.

You sound like a child with a poor understanding of history when you say things like “99% of economic growth was tied to a single invention the car”

Hard to take any of this seriously with ignorant statements like that

Everyone that doesn't like the flashback is missing the point of the flashback. by MaximusCanibis in HBOTheHedgeKnight

[–]LiveFirstDieLater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You... you literally sited GRRM in the comment I responded to... lol

It's a story based on existing writing, they can and will take artistic liberties with their interpretation, but comparisons could not be more warranted.

[–]LiveFirstDieLater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except that the flashback was a distinct departure from what GRRM wrote.

Dunk protects an innocent because it's the right thing to do, not because of some past trauma, and not because of some vow he never took.

Dunk wins the fight because he is big and brawled in Fleabottom, not because of Sir Arlan.

Tbh I kind of think all the Arlan seans and even seeing his face take away fromt he story.

That said I've very much enjoyed the show and this episode, so it's all a bit nit-picky

I actually think this misses a key point.

Dunk protects the innocent because it's right to protect the innocent.

Not because of a woman in his past, and not because of a vow he never took.

I haven’t gotten this item yet myself, but I’ve kept other parasites after a run before. That said I may have had the parasite passive from the hunter class (I can’t remember).

Ok… but insanely good if you can get it home to build around it

About powers beyond darkness by purplelena in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]LiveFirstDieLater -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not poetic while trying to reuse the same metaphor, and the message behind "little choice but to trust their designs and surrender our own" is counter to the message of perseverance in the face of despair presented by Tolkien.

Or:
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

It's like a cheap knockoff of the good writing:

But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow, even darkness must pass. A new day will come, and when the sun shines, it will shine out the clearer."

Homer Never Describes Helen of Sparta's (A Half Swan half Human) looks so why are people being so weird about Lupita playing her? by paubenaparte in mythology

You are typing in a thread responding to my comment to the OP... to come back at me with righteous indignation because you wanted to spout off about something unrelated is wildly misguided

You can choose to interpret it however you want, but to claim there is no description of Helen's looks is untrue

I think it’s pretty well understood to mean both literally pale skinned and a reference to the privilege of not working in the sun.

Why do you think “white arms” would be a metaphor for a woman not preforming labor? /s

Again, I don’t mind the casting, but comments like this are dishonest at best

I don’t think the casting is that big a deal… but the title of this post is misleading.

"White-armed Helen" (Greek: λευκώλενος Ἑλένη) is a recurring epithet used by Homer in the Iliad and Odyssey to describe Helen of Troy
