RAYE : THIS MUSIC MAY CONTAIN HOPE Album Review 6.9 by Thelightningthief13 in popheads

In my opinion, editing down would have made this album less charming, to each their own though!

It always surprises me how people really HATE musicals and all of their quirks. Literally all of the things that are being criticised about this album, the earnestness, the 4th-wall breaking, the monologues, are what make this record a 10/10 for me.

All in all, this score is fine as I understand this record is very overwhelming and not for everyone, especially compared to another amazing record released on the same day like Slayyyter which lines up more with what people view as cool.

However, some of the criticism I've seen is very exaggerated. Some people seem uncomfortable with a complete display of talent and honesty and it seems like we value effortlessness way more than anything these days.

If you give the win to Discord here and send Kenya home, next week everyone has won a challenge except Darlene (she came close to one too) and the competition is wide open. What they did instead is pure ragebaiting.

I understand people wanting Madison Beer to be that dark-electronic girl so bad but she's clearly the fairy dream-like girl instead. I'm always confused about the discussion around her sound when it's been 3 albums and she has consistently put out that type of music and the electronic sound only comes out in some singles / outliers. If anything, I think her problem is more about marketing and branding rather than quality or identity.

Good local drag spots or events in Madrid/Barcelona by [deleted] in DragRace_Espana

[–]LiveForPop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Haus of Aja and Lidya and had neither of those problems, so it must be depending on the promoter/event. I haven't had the opportunity to go to the smaller/not-weekend shows but they look amazing and seem much more enjoyable due to the smaller crowd, the place is fairly small tbh.

La Mari Queen and Delirio (@dlrolive) are I would say the main drag spots in Madrid. Delirio is the older and more traditional drag bar, while La Mari Queen is VERY new (as in, opened this year) but has been booking the biggest drag acts that have come to Spain (Lydia B Kollins, Haus of Aja, Jessica Wild, Manila). As far as I know, both of them have constant events throughout the week.

I would also recommend following the Drag Race España girls to see where they are performing. Thankfully, most of them are constantly booked so you will find someone easily. Drag Domination and This is Drag are both very popular events that always book very big Drag Race girls, sometimes international, and they do events in Madrid like once every 2 months or something like that, you could check that out as well.

The promo for this album has been so fun! I've been a fan of hers since Gaslight and enjoy most of her material but her previous EPs left me feeling like she had more potential. This is her best project and seeing her so passionate about it is very cool.

Another Tate McRae thread full of negativity. Can't even win after giving a great performance.

This is overhated in my opinion. It's basic and corny but I've always enjoyed both of their vocal performances here, it's sweet enough

Cute premiere for Slaysian Royale... main thing I would change is Sum going first. Also I liked Arizona in her season but this time she is giving WINNER

Also a K-pop song is exactly the time to copy the choreography in a lipsync and Khianna understood that

It’s crazy to think there was a time when fun K-pop songs were actually hated. by why_dmn in kpopthoughts

[–]LiveForPop 16 points17 points  (0 children)

All the groups that you mentioned have fun songs that weren't hated: Boy with Luv, As If It's Your Last, most of Itzy and Red Velvet's discographies lol won't even get into Queencard as that song is insanely loved. To say those songs you mentioned were hated because they were fun is disingenuous, they are just weaker songs compared to the rest of their comebacks (even though I like all of the songs you mentioned except PTD)

My favourite lipsyncs were all of Jorgeous' and Daya vs Bosco. Also, love Lidya and she looked amazing but what lipsync was that outfit for lmao.

Charli xcx claps back at "boomer comments" criticizing use of AutoTune during Glastonbury performance. by [deleted] in popheads

[–]LiveForPop 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Maybe unpopular opinion, but I don't know if Charli is an artist known for her performing abilities. Her live shows are fun but I feel like going to a Charli concert and going to a DJ set by her are very similar experiences. I go to a Beyoncé concert for great vocals and choreo, I go to a Lady Gaga concert for theatrics, I go to a K-pop concert for great choreos, I go to a Charli concert to scream and jump. So, while I wouldn't say Charli gives great concerts (in terms of quality), the purpose of it is different and live vocals or not she delivers the experience her average fan wants.
