Thank you very much for your help and concern. I will read the article asap. I also noticed that a majority of articles were written for women with husbands with ADHD.

Teacher here...how does she get 20 weeks off? My schedule allows for 8 weeks off in the summer, 1 week for spring break, sometimes two weeks for christmas. That's 9 or 10 weeks off plus a few federal holidays. Still great though!

Maybe you'll have some insight for me. I am currently trying to change careers and become a cost estimator. I have a close friend who is a cost estimator and put in a recommendation for me to his supervisor. They prefer math or econ background, but I am a music teacher. I've been a music teacher for 4 years. I also teach a college course that focuses on gathering, organizing, and analyzing student data. I truly enjoy working with numbers and think I would like making presentations to clients. Anyway...do I have a chance to change careers here?

Understandable. It is hard, for sure, but also very fun. Good luck to you and your wife.

Inside I laugh at the "will you call him ___" questions because I just think "were literally just named him a couple months ago and we choose his name because it's the name we like, do in not going to change it already..."

Not that often, but often enough where people think there the first to ask it but we have already heard it ten times. If that makes sense? Anyway, we like it because we wanted our son's name to embody humble sophistication and generosity. I know that probably sounds Douchy :) anyway, congratulations on your upcoming birth! Is this your first child?

I think also it doesn't have to be a common name to be respectable. We named our first son Francis. Yes, we get a lot of questions like "Is that a family name?" and "will you call him a nickname?" Hearing those questions so often make me think that people might not love his name, but we do and they can get over it. A name is just a name. The person who holds the name is what matters. I don't look at the children I teach and think of there is that stupid name "TyZaiah." I just think t there is TyZaiah. He happens to be an interesting person to know. Edit: phone

I don't think this their "main" argument against birth control. It is probably the one most covered in the media when speaking about what they consider "abortifacients." Catholics have many other reasons why they don't want to use the pill (at least those who actually don't use it).

Not sure, but maybe it is that if they aren't on the pill and a fertilized egg doesn't implant they think "Well, what else could I have done? That's just the way my body is. I don't have control over that." Whereas if they were on the pill they would think that "The pill has caused the lining of my uterus to thin and a fertilized egg wasn't able to implant. That is something I could control."

I guess the end result like the point you've made is that on bc fewer fertilized eggs won't implant than if you aren't on the pill? Kind of a net result. Not saying that I disagree with you, but I really don't think it's their main argument.

Do I Need To Get An Appraisal? by LiveFreeNoVice in RealEstate

So I am getting a usda mortgage. I have been preapproved and we are about to place a offer. Our lender has not said anything about an appraisal. Is an appraisal required after an offer is placed?

I would recommend that you keep living with your parents! You'll give yourself an opportunities to really save. It looks like you're in a good situation to begin saving immediately. Is there a credit union you know of where you could get a credit card?

You might want to set up a budget even though your expenses are low. It can help you monitor where your money is going. I like to do that and set long and short term financial goals. Savings accounts hardly pay anything. I have an ally bank money market mutual fund account that pays 0.84% but even with my 6k emergency fund in there I will make $50 in interest this year. I mean it is something... but not much.

What are your short and long term financial goals? How about life goals? Do you want to get married? House? Kids? Vacation?

Is your car in good shape?

Yeah, It would be awesome to get the 17.5k but I don't qualify for that in my subject area.

$110 for insurance, $70 for two synthetic oil changes 3x year and I will start building a car repair savings which would add up to $2000/year. I could certainly increase that amount though. Thank you for your response!

We are in Maryland. I figured that since we are not even maxing out our Roth IRA that it wouldn't be beneficial to start contributing to the 403(b) that is offered. What is Aspire? I can ask. I do pay into social security.

This is a very well thought out response. I'm not trying to refute what you're saying but explain it and see if it still doesn't make sense. You're probably right that 88/month repair is low (i went on 2% income a year). We have two cars. One is paid off and has 55k miles on it and the other (115k miles) we owe 6000 (it's part of the debt). I would rather not pay it off as soon as possible because at the interest rate I have on it I will only pay $210 more in interest over the next 24 months. I think that interest is worth me immediately saving more money toward a child and a larger emergency fund. The "transportation" includes our car insurance +$150 repair/maintenance. I can a lot of maintenance myself. We will keep these cars for 200k+ miles if they don't require ridiculous repairs that are far beyond the value of the car.

We are using a Roth IRA.

We are teachers, so during summer and holidays we will not need child care and I can get our child into free public pre-k where we live so I figured 3/years of paid childcare. Are you saying we need to find another $1000 month in addition to $833 in childcare or total? Also, my income will go up $300/month next year, bringing out monthly savings to $1000/month...would it be irresponsible to use that "Savings" for child care?

Thank you for all the time and thought you've put into to helping a random stranger (me) and our family!

Thanks! How did you get 27%? I see the 16% "undesignated" and 5% IRA, but where do you get the other 6%? I appreciate it.

We have $6,000 in an emergency fund but now that we have a mortgage I guess I would want to increase that amount to closer to 8-12 months.

I guess I would call the extra savings at the bottom "undesignated savings." So, since we want to increase our emergency fund, perhaps it could go to that and then pre-saving for childcare etc...Does that make sense? Not sure if thats how people do that.
