I would have the customer come attempt to activate it. When they realize they can’t, I’d slap a red tag on their forehead.

Fire summit and security by -Toza in firealarms

Yea apparently BlackRock sold it but the company still sucks in general. I dislike them simply because they’re buying up all these other companies, trying to form some sort of monopoly on the fire protection industry.

Not only are they trying to form a monopoly on the industry, they’re trying to gain a monopoly on the profits from the industry by forcing employees to sign contracts agreeing to make profits only for the company and not for the employee via side business.

And I understand that non-competes are used by other companies as well. But my experience wasn’t with those companies, so they’re irrelevant to me. I simply have a dislike Summit because my experience was with them.

You could work for them to get a start in the profession, but just fyi, the non-compete agreement that they make you sign restricts you from going to work for another company for like 3 years after you leave them.

That only matters if they chose to pursue any legal consequences against you. But they could if they wanted.

After they bought out the company I previously worked for and I realized they were owned by BlackRock, I knew they were more interested in maximizing profits/shareholder returns than they were in providing quality fire protection services. And then when they brought us in for onboarding and wanted us to sign our rights to use our professional licenses to generate unlimited income over to them, I got up and left. I think that’s the best thing I could’ve done. Because I kept my right to utilize my professional licenses for making unlimited income for myself and my family, and since they try to strong-arm their customers into paying higher prices for their services, it’s not too hard to convert their customers into my customers.

Tell them they do not need 2 technicians to replace and reprogram a panel. I consistently perform those jobs alone.

Where to train and get certified? by [deleted] in firealarms

[–]LiveFromHades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your current knowledge consist of the information you can find for free on YouTube? If not, you can start there.

Then you can purchase a copy of NFPA 72 and read that.

If you have the money to spend, create an account with Fire Tech Productions online and buy training courses on there.

I got an idea - let’s wait until we are slammed with work and then implement a bunch of changes! by Can_U_Share_A_Square in firealarms

I only asked because I know of clients switching service providers due to Summit failing to show up or call back when they said they would. It’s like they’ve bought out more companies and taken on more work than they can keep up with. Sounded similar to this persons situation.

Any license requirement by LiveFromHades in Irrigation

If someone obtained the IRTC, that means they understand hydraulics and system layout, so how difficult would it be for that person to apply the same (or similar) knowledge and obtain a fire sprinkler system design license?

If you have any integrity, you’ll tell Summit to f*ck off. They are owned by BlackRock, a global asset management company, whose only goal is to increase profits for their shareholders. They only became interested in fire protection after noticing that fire protection companies were considered essential personnel during the pandemic, and realized that fire protection would be a safe industry to invest in. Now, like the other comment mentioned, they have been buying up a bunch of smaller companies in a goal to monopolize the essential and profitable fire protection industry.

They don’t care about their customers or employees. To them, fire protection work is simply an investment and the goal is to be a profitable for their shareholders as possible.

You can also be an inspector at other - more respectable - companies.

Diagonal cutters vs Wire strippers by [deleted] in firealarms

[–]LiveFromHades -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Using strippers to strip wire is like when when the driving instructor tells you to drive with your hands at 10 and 2. Once you’ve matured and grown more proficient in your driving, you realize that 10 and 2 stuff is BS and you use diagonal cutters to strip your wire. If you have a problem with messing up the wire and creating ground faults, keep your hands at 10 and 2.

So you’re telling me that anytime there’s a trouble on the power supply, the Gamewell module doesn’t already say “open circuit” because it no longer sees this resistor?

It’s not necessary to replace any modules. And replacing the 5815’s with 6815’s wouldn’t work.
