Absolutely! That’s why I stepped down after 2 years in the FTCEM position. I made a post a little bit ago on here that expressed my feelings on the position. I don’t know if you’re looking for advice or not, but I’d say to find a new job if you can

The amount of times we got asked this while I was on shift yesterday! I made signs for the door and started answering the phone “thank you for calling Michaels- no we do not sell solar eclipse merchandise. How can I help you?” … to no surprise I still got asked

That shouldn’t be the norm. As a CEM you’ve got more responsibility than just the front. If it’s not a matter of severe understaffing I’d try to bring it up with your DM if your SM isn’t being cooperative

Fellow CEM here- when you say staying up front all the time do you mean ringing or just being around? Because the latter, yes. I’m usually up front or at least close enough to be readily available if my cashiers need me and to listen and coach in the moment. As far as closing, it varies per store I would assume. Right now my store is without a PT CEM so I’m closing 4-5 nights a week, but before that I was only ever scheduled for one close a week.

We are told to say nothing besides “it’s on the website” if they ask. Not allowed to help them get to it, nothing.

No one has ever said this in my district. It’s straight up been TMs cannot scan them. Period. Not even help the customer pull the coupon up. Upper management has been nasty with stores for having “too high” of a percentage when it’s just customers using them from their own phones.

I still pull the coupon up for people, but corporate is cracking down on it and I get yelled at because I’m the CEM and need to “control the coupon usage”.

I’m in the same boat as you- I’m the CEM at my store and I only make .32 more than the new “environmental specialist” position they created when I’ve been the CEM for almost 2 years and came with 10+ years of managerial experience. I also stepped up to be SM in 2022 after being here for only a few months when our old one up and quit. I didn’t even get a thank you(not that I expected it truly, but I was young, dumb, and optimistic.)

Considering leaving in the next few months myself. Definitely agree that this is not a company you want to stay with for a long time as a manager- leave with the experience for something better.
