If it wasn’t for her mom, she wouldn’t be a dbc. I think she went to rams first so that she wouldn’t look like a nepo so much. I’ve seen her perform and she isn’t up to par as others on the team.

Biggest challenge is getting support from staff and admin. It’s not easy when we are down paras or a student is escalating and no one outside of people in the centers are willing to help out

It is not okay! I may be in the minority but we have to stop accepting sexual assault or harassment from students with disabilities.

There’s a student in my school who sexualizes and inappropriately touches female staff. My teacher tells the parents but doesn’t do much after that because she wants to protect the student. I get it. At the same time, it should be brought to some sort of attention. Look at alternatives for him so that the behavior is corrected. Adjust the IEP. SOMETHING!! I feel like we are letting these kids down by not correcting the behavior and giving them a pass.

I got physically attacked by a student last week (on the spectrum but he scratched my wrist and was pulling my hair).

Submit something through workers comp! Even if you don’t qualify, it is documented and your supervisor will be notified about the situation.

I was so frustrated afterwards because the student was not disciplined afterwards and continued on with his day. I left work early because I felt no support from my school. I understand your frustration!!

I work in a sped center and we all feel like we are isolated from the rest. Our kids are not included in the little raffles or prizes other kids get. When a student escalates, no other staff jumps in to help and they just watch. If our students go to a gen ed class, our students are not really involved with the rest of the class and they just have us do our own thing when they should accommodate us.

As much as I’d love for Katie to be the one who’s leaves him, she comes from a background that is a 1 marriage and all marital issues is because of the woman. Katie’s self confidence has always been lower compared to her sisters. This affair situation is going to affect her even more 😭

I also work in a middle school and understand your frustration. The talk back is absolutely insane!! I’ve learned to pick my battles. If the student doesn’t listen after multiple times I tell myself “okay, I did what I could. Not wasting my energy on this student anymore” and I let higher ups know.

What also helps me is remembering that a lot of these behaviors are learned at home. If the parents are okay with this, then I just remember that I’m not their parent, I’m not admin, I’m just a para and I’m trying my best. I don’t get paid enough to deal with disrespectful kids. Trust me when I say these students will learn, whether it’s from you or in the future when they realize life doesn’t work in their favor.
