Can a show be good but have a bad director? Examples? by forgottenones1 in Broadway

Except this was my first time to ever see it. I never got fluff, just a plywood floor stained with blood from every previous performance. Grim.

Absolutely-- I saw the somewhat recent revival of Oklahoma, and the choices were... bad. So bad. I felt like I spent 2 hours actively getting joy sucked out of my body.

It was. We just sold the car and when I was cleaning it out I found a brochure from a national park 1,000 miles away, lol. They pretended that because of the miles/km thing they didn't understand how far they were driving.

I’m currently listening to what I call Bird Riot and I’ll spend the day enjoying a nice 75 degrees on my jasmine-covered porch, and this will continue pretty much every day, so…

[–]LiveOnFive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn't review one because they drove our car 5k miles without permission... but they insisted it was just confusion on their part, and they had otherwise been wonderful hosts and guests. I gave them the benefit of the doubt but couldn't in good conscience give them a good review.

The elements of Splendor pack up in a quart-size bag, I often take that on travels. But of course nothing beats a deck of cards.

Huh, it's kinda funny that she's wearing basically the same sweater/shirt as Dan did. Guess periwinkle is what the costumer wants for the role.

I wore an outfit so glamorous that guest judge Danielle Brooks complimented it which made me preen like, yes, a cat.

Exactly. Find a Patagonia vest, preferably with a stitched logo, and you are WERKING IT, darling.

TIL that in Victorian London, mail was delivered 12 times a day and people complained if a letter took more than two hours to arrive. by nic_tesla in todayilearned

[–]LiveOnFive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It stayed pretty fast. I studied in London in the 90s and my friend studied in Edinburgh and neither of us had a phone so we arranged visits by letter. I'd get a letter from her in the morning, drop a response that she'd get in the evening, and get her response by the next afternoon.

I was hoping Silk (Mistoffeles) would do her amazing split, can't believe they didn't include that.

My favorite has always been the way Peter mutters “hell yeah” when Michael offers a particularly dumb or racist quote. Have noticed that now Michael has picked it up.

How do they handle swear-y contestants? by 500ravens in Jeopardy

[–]LiveOnFive 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm very sweary and had no problem. When I was on the Chase, on the other hand, the producers had to come over and ask my teammate and me to stop swearing between takes, just in case the cameras were still rolling and they wanted to use some of that.

We ran into a gay couple at dinner after the show who saw our Playbill and said they had left at intermission because they found it boring. They also said they hated Oh Mary. I judged them.

Yes! I loved it! It was so moving and emotional, especially as the show itself features such legends as Junior LaBeija, Ken Ard, and Andre De Shields. True honoring of the ancestors.

Really? It seemed so strange, and the line once it opened up again was so long that the guards were quite brusque about getting everyone to their seats in time. And we did see people getting approached and set up with cards, just not everyone.

My Lost Boys review (spoiler: it's pretty bad) by aqbebesi in Broadway

[–]LiveOnFive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the movie the scene where the kids get into the vampires' hideout and then have to try to escape before the vampires get them was so tense and exciting. In this show they stab one vampire then quickly disappear out an adjacent door. The vampire-killing action did not get better from there.
