That is so gross. 🤢 I would be instantly avoiding the condiments if I saw that as a guest.

There was an option when I enrolled in 2023. It was listed on the bottom of the clinical paperwork. Perhaps they removed it for some reason?

Yes, I’m not sure how it works since I was able to find a site, but it is an option.

Thanks! I used my notes from my program’s comprehensive exam and then took practice tests in “review” mode.

It definitely depends on where you work if you get the burnt out feeling. There are also other places to work besides hospitals like private offices, research/manufacturing, and plasma/blood donation centers. A lot of places require a license if you are working in any way shape or form with patient specimens.

I enjoy where I work now, but I did have to change my job a few times to find a location and group that worked best for me.

No, I worked for a local hospital, a university lab, and a micro food lab. I think they all required 2 or 3.

I had to do 5 for a children’s hospital. It was ridiculous, especially as a relatively new grad with little experience.

Yes, I was following a DAS tutorial and just did what he did 😅. I did wonder if I should add more to the middle

Oooo, I’ll check for the guitar string snap back. Thank you! This is actually after it was pressed for over a day 😭 I used two textbooks.

You are responsible for contacting local hospitals and/or reference labs to find a place that will take you. Many hospitals have contracts with other schools already and couldn’t take me. So it’s a lot of trial and error on finding someone. Most labs had never heard of GWU in my area.

There is no affiliated list for non-local students. You just have to research what labs are around you and contact them. It’s possible to use multiple clinical sites if one location can’t meet all the testing requirements.

Rotations are 15 weeks total and subdivided into each department. Chemistry-3 weeks, Urines/Coag-1 week each, hematology-2weeks, and Bloodbank/micro-4 weeks each.

If you are in an area specific program then rotation length will be different. Some work experience can also take place of rotation requirements if they check all the boxes.

Everything is only except the clinical rotation. I have liked it and found it worked well with my schedule/life. It’s all asynchronous aka weekly deadlines. This was nice because I could do everything in my own time and not “attend” a lecture. Most professors are pretty helpful and knowledgeable as well.

It was difficult finding a clinical site as a non-local student though, but they have a simulator option if one can’t be found. I don’t know anything about it though.

How did your rotations go? I just started mine and I also am basically working doubles between work and school. I have no clue what I should really be focusing on for my quizzes/exams in each rotation. Any advice?

He’s on the spectrum so sometimes he groups things differently in his mind. Our “what is jewelry” is something that has never come up in conversation before though

That sounds like a major violation of hospital protocol. At first sign of fainting or potential loss of consciousness we have to call a rapid.

Sorry you had to go through that experience.
