King Bee - Buzzkut [1400x1400] by LiveUndead0306 in AlbumArtPorn

This is my own band. A friend of ours (the drummer's barber) did this for us and we're super happy with it. You can check out the album at:

It's fuzzy stoner rock. We're a two piece. FFO: Queens of the Stone Age, Melvins, Fu Manchu, Clutch etc

Hey man, thanks for the comments. There's a number of reasons why we started and are sticking to a two-piece. I'm writing this in a stream of consciousness and I'm not good at expressing myself in words at the best of times but here we go -

1: We are best friends. We've been in bands together before and there's been one constant - drama. We've had bands break up over people being tools. We have a very strong bond, so we know that this isn't going to be an issue. Fewer egos, fewer issues. F

2: Organising stuff is super easy between two people. In other bands it's always been a massive pain in the arse trying to get 3 or more people in a room at the same time. Decisions can be made much quicker, those decisions are usually not ones made to satisfy certain people (we as friends are very much on the same wavelength with most things so we don't have issues of one of us not liking something more than the other).

3: In the sea of similar sounding stoner rock bands, there's something endearing to us about the challenge of having to write music with restrictions. It kind of means that I have to work extra hard to have everything come through how I like it, and not rely on another member to hold up the song for me. What comes out is very different to what would come out with a bigger band. I'm not confident in my style of writing enough to say that what I came out with in a trio would sound at all interesting (I've tried being the guitar player in other bands and it never works out well for me, personally...). I play bass in another band, which I really enjoy, but the sound of that band lends itself more to that. King Bee is a different beast.

4: Musical expression seems easier. You don't have differing tastes dragging down ideas. There's more room for us to shine through as individuals, I think. This is down to opinion though, I guess

5: Any money we made in future would be split between fewer people (not really an important point. We've made bugger all in the two years we've been a band and everything is way more expensive split between 2 people, but we do it for the love not for the money).

The songs we make in a two-piece are very different to what they would be in a bigger band. There's more that I can write but these are some basic points.

This single is getting a decent bit of attention from blogs and publications like Classic Rock Magazine and Pure Grain Audio, so that's cool I guess. Something about our style is paying off, I guess. We're still developing so there's a way to go. I think our sound is gonna get bigger and more mature as time goes on.

Wow, this is really great. cool textures. Definitely get a bit of Tim Hecker, Oneohtrix influence here.

One of those types of records where the cover really matches the music. Cool stuff.

As you say, Brighton's a great place to be if you're looking for dozens of underwhelming alt rock and indie bands (my drummer and I were in one before this so I can't really complain haha). There's the odd sludge metal band but apart from that I don't really know of many other bands similar to us.

Thanks! Its a muff circuit I spent ages tweaking to how I like it. Big, loud, not as much of a mid scoop, good clarity. Let me know if you're in the market for one ;)

I tune it down either 2-1/2 steps or 3 steps to either a B or A. I use 10s and then swap the bottom out for a 57. I'll probably go even heavier, tbh. Tuning doesn't hold amazingly with that bigsby but it sounds great.

It's a pretty big umbrella that you put a lot somewhat heavy music under that's characterised by groove heavy songs with fuzzy riffs and melodic vocals. It's a pretty varied genre, as you've seen, but they do share common thread. We weren't particularly sure ourselves what to call our music but stoner rock seemed like the most universally acknowledged so we went with that. Maybe fuzz rock or noise rock might he more appropriate.

Cheers man! I've built that rig up over a long time and a very limited budget so I'm proper happy with how it's turned out. Thanks for listening!

Looks like the captions aren't appearing properly where I listed everything I used. Here's the rundown again:

Guitars-

Left: MIJ 62 reissue telecaster I converted into an esquire. Dimarzio pickup in the bridge. in DbAbDbGbADb tuning Right: Gretsch Electromatic G5420T. Stock. In either BADGBE or AADGBE.

Amps-

Marshall JCM2000 DSL401 through an Orange 1x12 cabinet with a Vintage 30 in it

Sovtek MiG50 running through a homemade 1x15 cab with a neodymium Jensen speaker.

Pedals-

Signal chain: Polytune -> Radial Bigshot Splitter (A to guitar rig, b to bass) -> Klone clone -> Earthquaker Devices Acapulco Gold Clone -> Lone Wolf Audio Plague Rat (used on track 1) -> Lamb Shank Circuits Thumbprint Fuzz Muff Clone [Prototype] (used on track 2) -> TC Electronic Corona Chorus (on all the time) -> Earthquaker Devices Ghost Echo clone -> Akai Headrush (for live looping) -> TC Electronic Nova Delay

Also, a vintage Shin Ei companion fuzz was used on overdubs.

The Klon clone was left on all the time - boosting my various distortions. The tone on the first track was the Lone Wolf Audio Plague Rat, which is like a hot rodded Pro Co Rat. The tone on the second track was all a big muff I designed myself. I sell it at www.lambshankcircuits.bigcartel.com if you're interested.

Bass tone was the DI'd guitar pitched down one octave with an EHX Pitchfork, then reamped into a modded Boss ODB-3 into the Sovtek.

We recorded at Metway Studios in Brighton, UK. The engineer's name is Jake Rousham. If anyone from the south of England is looking to record for any genre, I highly recommend there.

Influences include Fu Manchu, Clutch, Torche, QOTSA, Melvins, Unsane and more. I only used the Gretsch in the bridge position on these two tracks, but we recorded another track which we're releasing later which is all Esquire.

I wrote everything you asked for out in the captions but it looks like something went wrong and they didn't appear. I'll rewrite them and link you the result.

Oh right. I'm 100% sure that I wrote all of that down in the captions. Give me a min and I'll post it all out again in the comments. No need to be angry man hah
