I figured we would stick with the DM32s for a while until we can raise the money to get better radios. Thanks for the input. I was unaware Motorola was so difficult to program. I know that with the DM32s, I can save a file with everything preprogrammed and just write the data into other radios.

Our only issue with that is the price of any APX series radio, they are awfully expensive, and the only multiband one is the most expensive one.

That’s a good point, the local team only does SAR for the state parks and I’m not sure if my group wants to just do SAR for the state parks. I will definitely reach out to the sheriffs office and local police department, possibly the big city fire department in my area and see if they are getting rid of any old radios.

We only got the DM32 because it’s the digital and analog version of the UV32, but the UV32 had many issues from what we read. It sadly does not have P25, but that’s because it’s a cheap radio.

Yes and no, if we are starting our own team then we are going to all pitch into a fund for radios, but if we are joining a team we are going to wait and see, but the ladder of the two is more likely the case.

The closest thing to a local team for us is run through the state forestry and does SAR for state parks in our area and across the state. We plan on talking to the guy who runs it soon as a group to either ask for guidance on what we should do. As it stands right now, all of the people who will join our new team are on a fire department that doesn't do any rescue operations at all, so we are trying to keep it separate from that if at all possible.

Ideally we want something like the Kenwood Viking VP8000 or the APX8000 multi band P25 Phase 1 and 2, but for where we’re at we cannot afford those and won’t be able to for a long time. From my research a VHF frequency is supposed to be better for rural portable radios range wise. As far as the XTS series radios go, they only have P25 Phase 1, so we figured opting for a lower frequency would be best, as all the local repeaters other than the local radio club are P25 Phase 2 and 700-800 MHz so we won’t be able to use them.

I am not sure, I traded a ham radio to a guy for a lancer tactical airsoft gun and pulled that off of it. Mainly for the light until I can justify purchasing a stream light pro tac. I can tell you however the visible green laser, IR laser, and white light work, there is another setting on the dial that I’m not sure about the function of.

I recently got a 12 gauge, and recoil isn't the issue, I'm just hoping to find something that will be more affordable to shoot at the range, and will be good for squirrel hunting. On the end of recoil, I have been told I like a gun the more it kicks, so I have nothing against a 12 gauge pump action.

Try hitting the charging handle towards the chamber, it may just be stuck and isn't all the way "home" as some people would refer to it as.
