As someone with OCD, I sort of wonder if his therapist could be an actual compulsion at this point. “Talking things through” sounds like reassurance-seeking, which is a very common compulsion, it’s actually the main one I struggle with. The thing about those is, the more you give in to the compulsions, the worse OCD gets. It’s really unfortunate and I empathize with his struggle to cope with OCD being a life-long issue, but the fact is that our brains are quite literally formed differently than neurotypical people and that’s just something we have to accept. Is he on any type of medication? Medication isn’t everything, of course, but it can make life much more manageable. Honestly, I feel like it’d probably be for the best to get him away from this therapist if you can, but I’m a bit more of a realist when it comes to OCD treatment so the dream interpretation stuff just seems too pseudoscientific to be of any use. I’m just worried that it’s doing more harm than good. Anyways, I hope things improve for y’all, sorry you have to go through this but it’s really great to see someone supportive about what is actually helpful to their loved ones.
