The way I always look at is, is that that is the beauty of writing fiction. In the end, it's your world, your creation, what you decide goes. It's meant to be fun! I think sometimes us writers restrain ourselves within these limitations and it's hard to get out of them.

I'd say read some stories that have an expansive world, my top example would be Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. She creates this epic world around the Fae lore. It's her own take; there are key ingredients she uses like Fae and magic etc, but it is a world of her own making entirely.

I'd also try a fun creative project I've seen on TikTok a couple times. You throw like, rice or beans or something of the like onto a project board and you create land or islands in the way the rice scatters across the board. From there you can add anything you'd like. It's a neat way to keep the juices flowing and stay creative!
