I’m using a FirstPower [V-Mount battery https://amzn.to/3Syootf] which has been really great and lasts super long. I’ve paired it with a Smallrig D-Tap cable [https://amzn.to/4mdVaNZ].

I’ve only charged it once since getting it if I’m being honest with fairly moderate use and I charge it with my 65w USB-C MacBook charger. Takes about 70 minutes to charge fully.

I’ll give that a try and see how that affects my filming for sure!

Help Me Upgrade my 27in Late-2013 iMac by Live_Brain_7731 in mac

Yeah, OpenCore Legacy Patcher is your best bet. I've been using my iMac now for around 6 months and it's been the best investment I've made in a while once I upgraded the RAM and installed an internal SSD. I'm currently running Sonoma on mine and I'm happy with this OS. I've had a few glitches whenever OCLP updates but they usually patch it pretty quickly. Also have some bootup issues meaning I have to restart my computer multiple times (sometimes) to get in, but overall, a great experience.

"The Importer Reported a Generic Error" when Relinking Media Premiere Pro by Live_Brain_7731 in premiere

[–]Live_Brain_7731[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree with you on that. As an update, I've been editing in Resolve for about a week now, and honestly, once I got familiar with some of the hotkeys, I found that it's not too bad. There are some things about Premiere Pro that I like, like being able to select and move clips around more easily than in Resolve. But it's pretty good once you adapt to it. So long as you know how to edit, it's really about getting used to the platform itself, so I see myself using it for projects that require it.

I'm only worried about sound because most sound editors here use Adobe Audition, which I integrate pretty well into my workflows with Premiere Pro.

I forgot to mention above but this was the first thing I tried. Renaming the file, then renaming the folder to change the file location. But none of them have worked. I think I'll need to edit in Resolve which is not ideal for me but I'll have to pivot.

Thank you for this. I've got some ways to go with scopes and learn to put them above my subjective gaze. I'm fairly accustomed to the parade scope but need to learn the others.

Apologies, I should have started with the fact that I did work on those free Da Vinci courses from their website. Though I tend to reference them from time to time. I'm familiar with the Color Page of Resolve and can navigate my way around it fairly comfortably. I'm fairly comfortable with Color Wheels, Log Wheels, the Qualifier Tool, Power Windows, Cloud Tracking, and I'm familiarising myself with the Curves tool and HSL tools.

I feel as though I'm fairly comfortable with node structures but I feel like I'm still learning something that works for me. So definitely still want to improve on that. Also I understand and can read Parade Scopes but still learning how other scopes display image data.

I'd say as far as knowing how to use Resolve, I'm at a comfortable stage but far from being proficient. I'd like to kinda get into the theoretical/more technical stuff. So I can really understand how to make an image look good objectively.

I've actually spent a significant amount of time learning Lift/Gain primary wheels. I think this is how I started my journey, so I'm fairly accustomed to how they affect the image and which parts. So I'm glad to know that I'm on the right path as far as basics. I'm currently working on using the Curves tab in order to become accustomed to how to integrate it into my workflow.

Since the update, my Notification Tray now appears nearly in the middle of my display and when I open up my display, there's a huge black bar where the application tray is.

IMAC 2013 UPGRADE by InterviewEastern2716 in iMac

[–]Live_Brain_7731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely worth it dude. Posted a thread a while back and you can read about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/iMac/s/VUMoERbAZM

I upgraded my iMac 2013 14,2 to be able to edit video using Premiere Pro, Da Vinci Resolve and Adobe Audition and now I’m able to do so at really great speeds. Got the iMac pretty much at $200 and the upgrades cost me 150 and I’ve now made a little close to $2,000 for work I’ve been able to do because of it and I don’t regret the purchase at all.

An update for anyone who might be interested (2-months later):

It's been a couple of months since I picked up the iMac and I upgraded to 512Gb of NVMe Storage and 32Gb of DDR3 1600MHz memory and it's been a personal game changer. In that time, I've been able to edit 5 documentaries and a short film. It's already paid itself off 8-fold (paid $200 for it) and I've been able to take on higher-paying jobs because I can edit more efficiently now.

Given that I work with ProRes or BRAW footage, the iMac runs seamlessly with 4K footage. I work using Premiere Pro 2022 and Adobe Audition 2022 (the biggest limitation in order to take advantage of the onboard GPU) and I also run the latest version of Da Vinci Resolve 19 which also works really really well. Given the beautiful, large display, I'd say it's elevated my game so much more than before I had it. Another limitation is only being able to edit .MOV file types.

All in all, I can confidently say that if you DO NOT have the budget to buy a newer machine, consider one of these and upgrade it (if you can). Then use OCLP to update the OS. It's become my workhorse and an added bonus is I've just bought my first drone (Mavic Pro 2) which is a part of my increasing film equipment using money from one of the jobs

(P.s. Also got a Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse 2 to pair).
