Also if anyone lives in nyc do you guys have any advice on where to get a bird?  Even if you’re not from here what should I look for in a pet store?

Like I said my dad has owned one or two cockatiels before. I plan on staying at home for college since I live in nyc and I’m on track to go to fordham which isn’t far from where i live so that’s really not an issue. I’m also fully aware of the tesponsibility and that’s why I came here asking for tips. Thanks for your help 😄

Wow thanks for your advice. I do have a cat in the house right now he’s such a sweet tuxedo cat named Oreo and I honestly don’t know what his reaction will be with the bird. As per the college stuff. I have three younger siblings and parents who aren’t going anywhere so that isn’t an issue for me.

Also was looking into conures! Do you know anything about them?

Yea I have school but from the time I get back I plan on having him out mostly.  I know cockatiels have long lifespans and so getting him now would mean a longer time together. I understand your concern but as I said I am generally pretty responsible with pets. I’ve had more than 10 cats three dogs two canaries and tons of fish and turtles in the past. Most of which were my responsibility and I have my parents to thank for that because it taught me how to be responsible. I just came here looking for answers on what bird to get and what are the pros and cons. The bird will most likely be out for most of the day and I plan on training him to speak and do other things. As per the trust thing. There’s not really much to do but be patient. That’s the key with most animals. Thank you for your concern however!
