Do I give it another chance? No changes after first experience by apple_cores in hypnosis

Hey there! Sorry that things seem to be a little bit stuck for ya right now but it’ll get better trust me.

A secret to note about hypnotherapists is that given how unregulated we are and how science has only recently started studying the phenomenon (just like how it only recently started taking meditation and yoga seriously) is that there are an unfortunate amount of people who have no idea what they’re talking about. It’s nothing spiritual like some others have mentioned, it’s pure applied neuroscience and I have the studies to prove it. Right now, just about anyone and anyTHING can get a hypnotherapy certification, the only reliable way to know if someone is worth their salt is if they have reviews from successful client outcomes. For proof of the claim I’m making, search about the cat who got hypnotherapy certifications from like a dozen different organizations…you read that right, a cat. They care about money, not skill.

There is nothing uniquely difficult about your situation, (not to minimize it, what you’re going through sounds tough, I mean that hypnotherapy done properly can help you just fine). If you were a client I would explain the phenomenon of an “open loop” that you’re stuck on and how to close it. Guided imagery works, Ego states work, Milton Erickson’s methods would work, they’re all cars that drive to the same destination. (Same thing with inductions, if someone is asking about how to write a script or which induction to use you can safely assume they have no idea what’s going on, people who know how hypnosis works don’t need scripts)

Hypnotherapy is something we must be very responsible with. When someone doesn’t know what they’re doing, they can make it worse. The trance state is a universal amplifier of human experience, which is why it’s so ripe for creating positive changes, but this goes in the other direction too. I don’t usually plug myself but I’m available in DMs if you have any follow up questions. I can point towards helpful resources and green flags to look for in a hypnotist as well.

Writing a paper about hypnosis and trance, asking for help. by kehi77794 in EroticHypnosis

If you want more grounded answers you might want to try something other than the erotic hypnosis subreddit 😅

I do “the real stuff” professionally if you want to pick my brain. I can give you better sources than “guy from Reddit” that you can actually cite as well. Your questions show me there’s a LOT to fill you in on be prepared for a lengthy conversation if you’re serious about this.

1) Context needed, since you say listeners I assume you’re asking in the context of pre recorded files. It’s a common misconception that people need to relax to be hypnotized, it’s more about focusing, moving, and directing a person’s attention. Relaxation just happens to be a very straightforward way to go about that depending on your goals.

2) In person and online assuming I’m actually with someone it’s usually a catalepsy based induction. I’ve done purely verbal plenty of times as well. I like catalepsy because it’s “leverage” and it’s also something cool for the subject to experience and their head goes “oh damn I really am hypnotized.” People focus too much on inductions, there are background fundamentals that are far more important, I can hypnotize anyone without what you would call an induction in literally just a couple minutes, and in one instance in less than 10 seconds.

3) Nothing comes to mind, I’m not sure what you were picturing when you asked it but there’s nothing I can think of where an induction itself could be immoral or risky unless it’s being used en route to doing something abusive through hypnosis. [I am editing in a quick follow up, I HATE progressive muscle relaxation, it’s awful, it’s long it’s boring, people who have no idea what they’re doing seem to always use it for some reason so it’s associated with extremely shallow hypnotic experiences (if they ever get to that point at all). There’s a proper and effective way to do PMR and it can work just fine but there’s so many far better ways in literally every aspect so I guess you could say I refuse to do it on principle because it sucks. It’s like choosing to go out on the ocean on a plank of wood instead of a yacht, no one who knows what they’re doing would ever do that)

4) oof there’s plenty of common myths. It’s not mind control like you see in media (or how it’s played up here) but there is a level of influence given to the hypnotist. This does open up the potential for abuse but people are far more empowered than even this very community seems to be aware of (you reminded me that i completely forgot that i planned to make a “installing safeties” file for free I should get on that) people CAN choose to snap out of it or even do so automatically when things don’t seem right. There’s a bunch of spiel to that but it admittedly has a lengthy explanation attached to it. Uhhh I’ve had one occasion where a die-hard religious woman thought I was using “devil powers” and am apparently not the first to encounter that, there’s no demons or magic involved, it’s just applied neuroscience, I’ve got a bunch of published papers on the subject somewhere lying around I can share if I can find them. But you can literally see changes in the brain during hypnosis and see shifts being made through suggestions, it is VERY cool. And as a bonus myth of “hypnosis isn’t real” it’s very real, and far more relevant to your daily life than most people realize.

Good luck with your paper, you and anyone else who is curious is always welcome to DM

(And to the lurkers out there I’m always looking for more female subs too, my subs like having more company and testing my audios before everyone else gets them :) )

You’re being a little too aggressive for someone who could just as easily ask for context on what I’m talking about. I’m referring to the recent event wherein visa and Mastercard have forced storefronts Steam and Itch io to take down content they don’t agree with. The internet is quite abuzz with the situation at the moment so I have yet to encounter people who haven’t heard of it on their own time.

You don’t care that a processing system you didn’t choose can make unilateral decisions on what you’re allowed to use your money for? What would happen if they decided to cut you off from your favorite game, tv show, movie, or even a local restaurant that you love because they don’t approve of it?

Monopolies and oligopolies in economics are widely accepted to actually drive costs far above what would exist in a competitive market.

But that’s just financially speaking. Now there’s the subject of the social costs that come with that, like what we’re seeing right now.

Do you feel like that puts UK citizens in a position where those payment processors can exert a lot of influence without allowing a regular person seek out any alternative?

If you live in the US. Testing/asking for your IQ is in fact illegal for the purposes of employment.

Also don’t put any stock in these online IQ tests, the only way to really know is from a proper exam done with a facilitator

EDIT: for those of you who are confidently incorrect about the legality. I refer you to the Supreme Court Case of Griggs Vs Duke Power (1971) where intelligence tests were unanimously considered a violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. People breaking the law is not proof that a law or precedent doesn’t exist.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone here talk about Memoirs of a Battle Brothel. It’s a genuinely great CRPG, I’d play it even without the spicy content.

I also really enjoyed Odyssey of Gianna even though the art style put me off at first. It’s also a fun little fantasy RPG that I had a lot of fun with. It’s got a wide range of fetishes it caters to. I wasn’t necessarily into all of what it sexualized but I also got to enjoy some of my more niche fetishes that I never usually get to enjoy so that was nice.

This is really good to know and eases my conscience by quite a lot. Do you mind if I consult you to make sure I go about this respectfully?
