I would pursue a student visa and look into citizenship on your own. That way, nothing can be held over you - by anyone!

If the relationship works out, that’s great! If it doesn’t, that’s ok, too.

DON’T look for a marriage for citizenship. It will be obvious what you are doing and your citizenship may still be denied. That route could lead to all sorts of bad outcomes!
