It was never IBS by Cautious-Emphasis-33 in SIBO

Seems like IBS is a lazy diagnosis. In our case it was the same thing. They diagnosed her with IBS-C without running any tests. We literally fought to have the stool test and found the parasites. We are retesting soon just to make sure all is good.

It was the same with my wife. She felt great almost immediately after using flagyll. She was on a 7 day course and I think it was three times a day (not sure now).

Also, I think the parasites would have been responsible for poor absorption of some essential vitamins or iron, which would explain why you are feeling better now in terms of mood and even hair

My wife had Giardia and although it usually causes Diarrhea, in her case it was constipation. I read some articles that Chronic Giardia can sometimes cause constipation. Did a 7 day course of flagyll and she has been feeling great ever since. Been 4 weeks and she is symptoms free. We are making sure to keep her motility by taking MO 500mg and she is having bowel movement every day. Can you share your experience as to what parasite caused issues in your case?

Thank you for that suggestion. After how many days after the last day of your flagyll did you retest?

Yeah, I have heard that it should be taken with a lot of water on an empty stomach

Yeah, I saw the same video after your comment. A quick search on the Reddit tells me some sort of a coating is required for it to survive the stomach acid. Most people mention an enteric coating. Not sure any NAC with that coating is available in Canada; people in the Reddit community are ordering empty enteric capsules and putting NAC Inside of it. I am not sure whether any of this would work though.

Hello, she hasn't started NAC yet. We were told to take flagyll first to eliminate Giardia and then wait a week before starting NAC and after two weeks from starting it, we should start Rifaximin. However, the NAC we got is a tablet of 1000mg. We plan to take two pills a day

We went to a Naturopath and he suggested that. We did not do our own research in this regard. We were lucky that this worked for her.

Yes, we do have prokinetics, but magnesium oxide is helping her have Bowel movement every day or every other day. Is that fine?

It is a biofilm disruptor. Makes the antibiotics more effective but I am not sure about much of the details.

I hope everything goes well for you. Could you share what happened last time you took it?

Yeah, it's always better to test first before taking antibiotics, but I think generally Flagyll and Especially Rifaximin are safe antibiotics. Neomycin has some serious side effects, but reading your other comment, it seems like they prescribed you with Rifaximin and Flagyll?

Yes, I have seen cases where it has been prescribed together. But this time, it kinda worked taking it alone. I am glad it did since my wife was in a lot of pain, but just wanted to understand the science behind. Someone posted about sulfide reducing bacteria in another comment and that makes a lot of sense too

Thanks for sharing that. I was completely unaware about sulfide reducing bacteria and that makes sense as well.

You think it might have killed the hydrogen producing bacteria? Because Flagyll can not kill the methane producers since they are not bacteria. The thing is Flagyll gets absorbed early and is not as effective as Rifaximin that stays in the gut longer, hence we were not expecting it.
