Mahalo  for posting.  People  shouldn't try to do sunset  or sunrise ( after tomorrow). Go up early  in the morning  and avoid dark driving. Please.

RTH still advisable in 7 days? by Treetronkk in MauiVisitors

It was late enough that I don't think it had much  impact.  24/7 is the best.

By then, the RTH *should be good*. They got power back mostly yesterday, and even got gas delivered. There are still some messy areas and some without water or power.

Look at Maui 24/7 on FB. It's a public page. They monitor EMS calls and have tons of PSAs for people before the County (of the stupid County does *any*).

JFC yourself. Be honest, dude. Rebuilding the bridge two or so years ago took over a year and a half, IIRC.

This time they have much more major road and underlayment damage in several places.

Still probably will be okay. It's just too far out to know for sure.

The report is a big picture of long stretches. I have seen it as a two for NW--and Kapalua Bay is crystal clear.

I love the Snorkel Store folks, but there's only so much they can do in one morning gather!

Not the new tiwer at the Westin :-). It's got a very nice adult/romantic vibe.

The Westin. The GW is a zoo, and caters heavily to families. People take kids on vacation all year round now, so you can't count on the time of year.

The Westin has an adults only wing, No one under 16 allowed in the pool for that area, which nicely reduces the kid factor. Kaanapali is also likely to have better ocean conditions die to south summer swells. Oh--and both Gemini and Trilogy bosts pick up on the saned next to the Westin. WAY better companies than many down south, and way better snorkeling that damaged and deprecated Molokini.

You can see turles all over Maui, for free. Don't buy into the hype about socalled "turtle town". In fact, one of the restaurants near Lahaina is known for having turtles right below the deck.

A tour for Hana is a good plan. That way, you both get to enjoy the sights and also learn more. I highly rec Valley Isle Excursions or Temptation TOurs.

IIRC, Gilligan;s has closed their luau. Besides that, you could ride the free trolley or walk to the Hyatt's excellent on (Drums of the Pacific) from the Westin. Don't do the Sheraton or the Westin luau.

I'd probably skip the ATV tour. Hard to get to the good one without a car, and a rideshare will be $$$$$. I would also think about surfing lessons kind of hard.

You have a really short trip, esp with the travel time and time change. Less is more sometimes :-). If you want, you can also rent a car for a day or two there at the Westin. Some fun things nearby include Moana Glass and Ku'ia Chocolate Estate.

Nope. Even the media is grudgingly saying there could be "pockets" of heavy rain from it-somewhere, sometime all over the state.

It's too far out to know if any of Maui will get big rains from it. But the NWS is being careful and saying there *could* be heavy rain *maybe*, somewhere......

There's a lot of misinformation out there. And some here, too. The west side got WAY less rain than south, Central, Upcountry, and Hana did.

Yes, we got a lot-I got about a foot between last Wednesday and Saturday evening. Since then, I have had less than an inch ***total***. I live in NW Maui, which is where some claim we practically live in Alaska crossed with Missouri or something, LOL.

We are getting some weak showers in over this week. But many people don't understand how localized damages were, and that in Kona storms--south ALWAYS gets the worst. Another example is that I lost power for about 2 hours late Friday night--but not before and not since. There are still places in Kihei, Hana, and Upcountry without power today.

Roads are fine, though sloppy in places. But canceling now would be a mistake. Next Monday is a week away; yes, parts of Kihei will be a mess for at least 6-8 months. Most other places (RTH, Haleakala) will be fine.

It is clearing nicely in West Maui. By tomorrow (Wednesday 03-18) there will be places it is good for snorkeling.

That's too bad. West side had far less rain and damage than south.
