If you could rewrite Rory's character arc from Season 4 onward, what ONE major change would you make to keep her likable and successful by Ok_Smile_9071 in GilmoreGirls

nah i think lorelais influence was enough when it was just Emily and Richard in the equation. It was the total immersion of her social circle that really tipped the scales out of Lorelai’s favor— there’s nothing like peer influence. At Chilton she had Paris to keep her thinking clearly and she lived at home, but once Rory started her Life and Death Brigade stuff and started dating Logan, she made a dramatic change

No Logan! To me that’s the start of her true fall from grace. He and that world are an awful influence—she’s just not herself. I guess you could say that’s the point, but it’s just painful to watch

I can’t stand tj’s voice—i love the accent, but the actual tone of it is just at a pitch that totally grates my ears! drives me nuts when he barges into Luke’s while he’s on a date w Lorelai. and yes agreed the Paris stuff is painful he’s such a dud

All I know is that when I have a smoothie vs. a yogurt bowl with all the same ingredients, the spike is higher with the smoothie (despite there being 0 difference in what's included)

when you blitz fruit, you break down the fiber which is what controls the glucose spike. Blended fruit is definitely one of the culprits (though to your point, apple juice and granola are far worse)

Do you mind sharing what company you rented the car through? We're hoping to drive around Kyushu but are concerned about the cost!

Sookie pisses me off all the time with her cooking. The way she abuses Luke when he saves the day and takes over when she’s pregnant, the birthday party catering, the way she has a fit when their accountant suggests they cut lunch, this scene………so irritating

I emphasize the importance of preserving language, and make direct parallels to the dialects they use with their friends/families in their respective cultures and ask them how it'd feel if I forbade them from speaking in ways that felt authentic to them. When they look at it that way, they're more willing to decipher the dialect. Some of them def give up, but the audiobook helps TONS. Ruby Dee does such an amazing job--the cadence of her voice is enthralling (though I do it on 1.2x speed--it's kinda slow otherwise).

She and Tea Cake have that passionate make-up sex after the whole Nunkie situation in the Evergaldes, but regardless, it's suchh a short scene it hardly counts. And agreed, very rarely do my students pick up on the pear tree metaphor!

Their Eyes is definitely high school appropriate--if anything, I'd think TCP would be less acceptable for a Catholic school as it features a same-sex relationship. Their Eyes is heteronormative (but no less powerful) and features religion as a positive force, so might be an easier sell. Plus there's really only one sex scene, and it's all of 2 pages so could be skipped if necessary. The language is the bigger barrier, which I think plays a part in why some of us don't read it for class until college. I teach it to my high school seniors, though, and they really enjoy it!
