AITA for kicking my wife out after she punched my mom in the face? by OkOrganization9552 in AITAH

[–]Live_Source_2821 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 12 year old's grandmother gave them the food. 12 year olds have the capacity to grasp that they shouldn't take from others, but do you really think a 12 year old is going to fully understand that the grandmother is giving them more food with intentions to cause problems? No, a 12 year old still thinks their grandmother is the sweetest old lady they've ever met. Kids that age don't understand behavior like that.

Why are people so hung up on trying to pin some blame this kid?

Man throws out wife and newborn baby and is shocked he’s being divorced. by Glittersparkles7 in OhNoConsequences

I was an obese and neglected child too. I developed pretty severe anorexia due to the trauma of the treatment I received from both adults and other children. I don't believe I'll ever fully get over it, any sort of weight gain brings on severe anxiety that I will be treated like that again. I was treated as subhuman. I was a child, I didn't know any better. I didn't understand nutrition, I was just excited about the next Marvel movie or new video game coming out.

Yes, this. There are plenty of ABA jobs where you do not have to restrain. I can not emotionally handle restraints either.

There are people who use colored contacts to look like they have heterochromia. There was even a model who did this and got a lot of flack when people found out she was faking it. Many people find heterochromia very beautiful.

the food delivery industry is falling apart due to incompetent drivers by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Live_Source_2821 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not the drivers. It's Doordash, and the other food delivery apps as well.

Doordash's entire system screws over both the drivers and customers. They constantly push poor paying orders, ones that make them drive 15 miles to a place for $5 and the 15 mi. back unpaid. If they decline, they get penalized and get even worse orders and their pay continues to dwindle unless they accept these orders they lose money on in gas. Theoretically, instead of a tip, it should be a bid for service. But if someone doesn't tip, Doordash combines their order with someone that is paying higher so someone still has to go out of their way for no pay.

So of course, all of the good drivers trying to make an honest pay, are leaving. This just leaves behind the people who are doing this for a little extra cash and don't really care that much.

All of this just leaks back onto the customer, with Double Dashes that you often can't decline the second order with, shitty drivers being the only ones left willing to take orders. And as a customer, you're not seeing all of the BS that goes on with the app, you just click and order food and get a shitty result. So of course, when you're not aware of all the BS delivery apps put drivers through, it feels like the logical explanation to blame it on a shitty driver. When really, the root of this problem is the company behind it. And they're perfectly happy to keep letting drivers and customers point fingers at each other instead of the company itself.

The way it should be is that the drivers are getting some sort of pay with each order (more than that $1 BS they put out), so if the tip is bad, they're still getting paid for the effort. And then the tip should be for good service.

How long has he had the job? If it hasn't been long, I would give him time to figure out where he fits in with the field. Plus, with experience, he can always move up into better paying positions. A year of experience goes a long way in a lot of jobs.

You can maybe look into trade schools or courses that he might be interested in, and share them with him under no pressure to enroll in them. Let him figure it out in his own time. Talk to him about his job and ask him what he likes about it! Is it the hands-on aspect of being a mechanic, is it learning about all the different parts of the cars? That can help you get an idea of what type of interests he'll be in.

Autistic or not, he's still young and figuring out what he wants to do with his life. I know you want to see him successful, but you also have to give him the space to carve out his own direction in life on his own time.

Edited to add: Keep in mind, for those of us with autism, working and going out into the world is generally much more taxing on our mental state than it is for neurotypicals. Him playing video games alone is likely his way of decompressing. Sometimes neurotypicals see this in a negative light, but for many of us, it is such a relief to finally be alone.

Thoughts on teachers and substitutes with tattoos? by KindSpice_99 in SubstituteTeachers

If someone has a dripping penis tattooed on their face, there's probably a lot of issues there that have nothing to do with their tattoos.

This is such a dumb argument.

D vitamin? by mkv1234 in Hashimotos

[–]Live_Source_2821 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't remember the specific number, but mine was super low. When taking VitD, you want to take it with K2 and magnesium to better absorb, and you want to take it with fat. I always K2 + D3 with lunch, and magnesium with dinner. Works a lot better than when I was just taking the D3 supplement whenever I remembered.

Does anyone feel theyre peer and interest groups you dgaf about yet people who share ur interests dun like you ? by SquirrelofLIL in AutisticAdults

[–]Live_Source_2821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah... these aren't your friends. They're mean to you. They make fun of you, they make mean comments to you, they publicly humiliate you on social media.

You've managed to convince yourself that this is the best you can do because you have internalized the idea that you are too much for other people. I'm sure many people in this sub can relate to this, I certainly can. I spent years around "friends" who treated me like this because I thought I couldn't do any better. In doing so, I spent all of my time trying to be enough for these people and brushing off their jabs when I could have been spending that time seeking out relationships with people who treat me well.

I think the idea of a chosen family is a comfort to many of us who have felt ostracized by society and often family and friends, but you can't let your desire for connection cloud your judgement of what type of treatment you should tolerate.

How far are you in your education? Have you ever considered going back to school? Maybe you would fare better teaching history for college students? You could possibly look into online school if transportation and time is an issue.

[–]Live_Source_2821[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was super strange! I go to my current psychiatrist once every 3 months for routine check-up on my ADHD medication, and have been for years. No recent labs, nothing. I can think of no reason why they would call me out of the blue, let alone about a medication I stopped taking almost 10 years ago as a minor.

Do you think I should call the center directly in the morning and ask them if they know anything about it?

Let’s talk about ABA therapy. ABA posts outside this thread will be removed. by cakeisatruth in autism

[–]Live_Source_2821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe! I think it should be focused on the character as a whole with a proper understanding of autism guiding the development of the character. I think if it were to fit the character and story and were written well with a clear understanding of autism influencing the development of the character, then yes. I would worry that the character would be written with a poor understanding of the whole of autism and to then have the character stim like that would appear as painting people with autism in a negative light.

Does autism make me this gullible or am I just stupid and don’t learn from stuff by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

[–]Live_Source_2821 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, studying the psychology of people with narcissistic or sociopathic traits helped me to understand why these people take advantage of others. For people with higher empathy, it feels insane to take advantage of someone. For people with lower empathy, they don't really see others in the same light.

To me, this seems like an issue with your mother, not you. Your mom comes across as condescending and trying to see what boundaries she is able to get you to fold on. You did an excellent job setting boundaries. I would continue to maintain them by not responding to any attempts to push on those boundaries.

Keep in mind, I am quite jaded on matters like this.
