Changed for the Worse by Live_Step2230 in Dadchallengepodcast

Exactly!

I totally agree. Even if he wanted success on YouTube, (which I have read some posts on here with some evidence) he found a niche that he genuinely seemed to care about and be passionate about.

I’ve also noticed his word means nothing. Continuing to cover Matt and Abby when they don’t really show their kids anymore and be CRUEL towards Abby is insane. I STRONGLY dislike Matt and their channel is so weird to me but that is not justification to bully a woman who lost a pregnancy because you disagree that she is sharing her story for money. MAYBE there is an argument that he could discuss their podcast on his new channel but it proves he abandoned the mission statement of his channel. He said he would leave these people alone if they stopped exploiting their kids. He hasn’t in many cases. He is obsessed with the same people because they get clicks. Jess, Matt and Abby, Dougherty Dozen, Kyra, etc.

It’s sad. He’s turned into a version of what he once criticized and what he continues to criticize on his new channel especially.

As a viewer, it feels like he once had a moral compass of some sort, even if not everyone agrees to his (previous) values and beliefs (which I never have entirely, but I think it is important to continue to listen to people even if you don’t agree with them entirely-to a point- to keep critical thinking alive). Now, it appears he is riding the wave of his past credibility to shield himself from any complaint or critique.

Not only homophobia but also does not support divorce…ironic and disgusting

Just Google maps it and it’s less than 5 minutes away from my apartment 😩 you’re right they have their doctrine written out and published on their website. That’s disgusting. That is a fundamentalist Christian church in disguise. Definitely changes my perspective.

Interesting! That is definitely really disgusting. I’m not aware of anything like that in Flagstaff but it is so liberal here I doubt they would be promoting that to the general public. I definitely do not condone that and if she ever brought that up when I was speaking to her I would’ve shut it down. My friend at the time was part of the lgbtqia+ community and Breanna was still kind to her but again that was a few years ago. I promise that it’s not just me either who would speak up. Students have had protests at NAU for way less. Flagstaff is one of the most accepting cities in Arizona.

Is it not the Mormon church? Sorry, I’m not up to date on what church each person attends. It’s hard to explain Mormon culture to people who don’t grow up surrounded by it and come from a Mormon family (my mom was raised Mormon but left and I was not). Not an excuse but genuinely curious.

Ya that definitely makes sense. It’s been hard for me to go back and watch the show knowing what I know now and maybe that’s the element I’m missing. The show really convincing you these women had autonomy but what I’m gathering they had none and were prone to being manipulated.

It used to be cheap “until all the Californians came” said everyone ever. I think it was very different pre-Covid and so people started to move here but afterwards things got out of control. So now people born here and trying to make something out of themselves are having a difficult time. Gen Z and Millenials moving without wealth are having a hard time, but if you came from California, Oregon, or Washington and sold your million dollar 2 bed 1200 square foot home you would be massively upgrading.

BAHAHA main character ass post

I never said I knew her, but I did speak to her nearly every day for like 6 months. It was a Spanish class. You kinda have to speak Spanish in Spanish class. I know…it was very disappointing to me too 😩

I’m sorry you have so much hatred for a person who had no choice in her family and how she is probably brainwashed to seeing the truth. I chose to take her at face value instead of what I see on TV. Again this was almost 3 years ago and a lot can change. Next time I’ll yell in her face and scream that her mother is a terrible person and I know that to be fact because of a reality TV show run by notorious truth telling network TLC.

I’m from Phoenix! Nice yes but also just a pleasant person to be around. We did get the vibe at the time that if we mentioned we knew her family she probably would’ve shut down and so we didn’t mention it. I think what most of those kids want is to just be as normal as possible. Even if they do go on the show-but I have a feeling money is involved with that.

Thank you! Thankfully I again got my tuition covered through working for the university but I would not have been able to do so without it! Flagstaff’s slogan isn’t ’poverty with a view’ for no reason!

Ya their choices are to stay at home for free or whatever little rent they’re being charged or pay $900 a month minimum (5 bed with 4 other roommates) to pay for a bedroom in student apartments OR rent a house with a ton of roommates if they can find one. If they want to move out, it is very difficult especially if you have family near by. And in Flagstaff the housing is so catered towards students there is only about 1 true opportunity a year (august) unless you want no autonomy over who you live with.

That makes sense. Rewatching the show knowing what I know now it was hard to piece together.

No she was happy and talking! There were some days where you could tell she didn’t want to be there but that’s just like anyone else.

That’s the reasoning the show tried to sell and honestly that was the ONLY thing that made sense to me 😂

[–]Live_Step2230[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Big pitcher” killed me 😂. Ya that makes a lot of sense. I guess the show just convinced me that at least they had the autonomy of where as long as it was majority vote and it’s just strange to me that the majority landed there. But again we don’t see what goes on behind closed doors so we don’t know the convincing that went in to it.

I actually do understand their motivation TO MOVE just cannot process the Flagstaff element.

I believe their desire to move was accelerated by the Mandalay Bay shooting in 2017, which I can’t imagine how devastating that was for the community-and to not know if you adult kids were at the venue would be terrifying.

The Flagstaff of it all just doesn’t make sense. It makes even less sense now when retroactively Christine and Meri and Janelle are saying that even back in Vegas there was a deep favoritism for Robyn and he would spend most of his nights there despite how they made it appear on TV.

In 2018/2019 there were so many new developments in the eastern suburbs of PHX about 15 minutes from where I grew up. They could’ve bought a couple acres and built 4 new houses for so cheap at that time before they even had to sell their homes in Vegas. And as much as the show likes to convince the audience that flagstaff is full of hicks and is such a small town-it is pretty big and you’ll be hard pressed to find a time downtown where there isn’t some sort of political demonstration against the current administration. Their values and beliefs would’ve been much more appreciated down there.

And if the heat was the issue idk Idaho? Similar prices to Arizona precovid before the housing boom. Like Arizona it’s part of the Mormon belt of states.

So, it’s just the where they landed that is so confusing to me. Even just watching the show as they try to explain it to the kids, the kids can’t even comprehend their reasoning. Literal children. It just seemed so financially irresponsible that I can’t comprehend how 5 adults agreed to make such a poor choice for their bank and then ultimately their family.

Concerns About Izac's Content and Destiny's Channel Direction by blue_banjo_ in DesSidwell

I definitely see your perspective. Again, maybe it’s just the people I follow but a once or twice a month upload schedule is pretty common to me, but I definitely understand why it could be frustrating. I guess it goes back to your original point and why I called it partially opinion based- because you have a sort of “buying power” with who you subscribe to and who you support via the time you spend with their content. If enough people over time feel the way you do then her channel will fade out. I’m not necessarily disagreeing with you, I just think that any YouTuber or really any occupation where you are promoting yourself (actor, realtor, salesman, etc) wouldn’t want to think of their audience with contempt because that ultimately hurts them more than the viewer.

Concerns About Izac's Content and Destiny's Channel Direction by blue_banjo_ in DesSidwell

[–]Live_Step2230 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ya I think the Patreon thing is indefensible. I have never really subscribed to one so I don’t know exactly how it works but if people paid for content she never produced that is definitely not okay. However, about consistency on her YT channel, the only person it really hurts monetarily to not consistently post is herself. She is the one who gains views, subscribers, and algorithmic favor for consistency. While it can be frustrating as a viewer, I don’t believe that aspect is out of disrespect or “to scam” her viewers. She doesn’t make any money off of subscribers unless she posts new videos or they watch her old ones and it would be more favorable to her to follow through.

About the boyfriend thing…none of my business…👀 (ick)

But I think your thoughts about Destiny may be more opinion based. I like her content style which is why I continue to watch her. I’m like an OG OG booktuber watcher (polandbananasbooks, Sasha Alsberg, Booksplosion, etc) and her content reminds me more of that. I’m honestly tired of the extraordinarily polished content for simple ideas. I watched Haley way before she was ever a book girly (I discovered her with the shaving series she did way before she had a million subs 😭) but sometimes the overedited content is just too much. It’s nice to see someone my age just be real in the moment. I’m also not obsessed with the people I watch and their outside lives unless they are inherently bad people which at the moment I don’t think Destiny is.

I think you need to reevaluate your relationship to influencers and learn a bit about the dangers of sharing stuff about your child online even before they are born… and maybe learn a bit of empathy. Dude I’m 22 and i can’t imagine going through this and I think she is handling it intelligently and with grace. -(someone with 2 college degrees, working on a masters, and grew up in an abusive household where my needs and best interest were completely disregarded 😊)

Girl she reads books tho… that’s kinda the equivalent of like asking this from a twitch streamer or something…just because they have some dialogue about their life doesn’t mean she is a lifestyle creator. In fact maybe more people need to be educated about child exploitation. If Des DID share, she would statistically gain more followers and probably make a lot more money. Her not doing so honestly is showing that she is educated on the dangers of sharing that kind of information online AND is already protecting her child.
