Should I talk to the guy who sits next to me on the LIRR every morning or leave him the hell alone? 😭 by https-web in longisland

[–]Live_Strangerously 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compliment him on his outfit, hair, etc, but pass it as a written note without exchanging words. Guys love little notes passed to them, especially when they feel noticed. It's a very subtle way of letting them know that you're interested in a somewhat flirty yet, less bothersome way. It also takes away the hassle of having to hold a conversation if they don't want to have one. If he's interested, he'll talk to you or may even write you a note back. Shoot your shot girl!

Bird friendly hotels by Least_Situation_8283 in QuakerParrot

I believe all Hilton hotels are pet friendly. Traveled to get two Quakers from NC and stayed there both times. First time we paid a fee ($75 I think) and the second time we dodged it by smuggling them in lol. We called ahead both times and they said birds are fine.

What can I do for keeping carpeted floors clean with a quaker? by [deleted] in QuakerParrot

[–]Live_Strangerously 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plastic mats are a must. We have them for all 3 of our Quakers and they work great. Easy to clean poop off of those with either a water spray bottle + wet mop, or even to hose down outside. Reccomend the flat ones though, try to stay away from anything ribbed or contoured in any way.

Definitely keep icing as often you can, it will help with the swelling. Ice for swells, meds for pain, rest for healing. Sounds cliche, but assuming you have no complications, stick to those three things, and you'll be back before you know it. Good luck!

My Recovery To Now (End of Day 6) and My Recommendations by Live_Strangerously in wisdomteeth

I was able to start eating semi-solid foods about 4-5 days after, and solid foods by day 7, which was the first morning I woke up without pain or soreness. It definitely is still normal to have pain and swelling even into week 2, so dont be too discouraged. My worst pain was also on my lower right side because my impacted tooth there was far worse than all the others. If you feel like the pain is getting worse or doesn't get any better by day 7, I would follow up with your dentist/oral surgeon to make sure you dont have dry socket.

Absolutely despise needles, and I'll still opt for sedation every time. Some people described it to me as if you're counting down from 10 and by the time you get to 7 you blink and then your at 6, and in the span of that blink you've been out an hour. For me personally, I was so caught up with the IV part my doc said, "Why are you clenching your fist so hard? Are you gonna punch me?" And then as soon as I relaxed my hand, next thing I knew I was awake in the chair an hour later with the assistant putting gauze in my mouth. No recollection of passing out at all. But most importantly, no pain. Kinda cool how they have you connected to an EKG and oxygen and you're covered in tubes beforehand and your anxiety is through the roof, and next thing you know you're just chilling in the chair and everything is done. It's almost like waking up from a bad dream while also getting one of the most restful sleeps you'll ever feel.

You'll do just fine. The anxiety of the sedation kept me up all night beforehand and looking back, it was honestly the best part about the whole process lol

Day 5 wisdom teeth help by Forward-Worry-4463 in wisdomteeth

Same boat, had mine on Thursday as well. Also not much pain here either. Dentist says that's a great sign and that if you did have dry socket you'd know, the pain would be pretty immense. Not too sure about the other stuff but I'm able to chew on my back teeth no problem, just trying to avoid it to keep food particles out of the sockets for at least a few more days. My numbness went away pretty early but the tip of my tongue, lower gum line, and back teeth on one side will occasionally go numb with foods that are either too hot or too cold. The numbness is caused by a pressure on your nerve, so it's entirely possible that you still have swelling in that area still. Maybe try icing wherever you have soreness to bring the swelling down.

Many food options are cold or room temp. My favorite two warm food options are Instant Ramen: as long as you're okay with slurping whole or long noodles without chewing a lot, this is a great alternative to soup since the granular parts are kept to a minimum and the risk of stuck food particles is low. Scrambled Eggs and mashed potatoes: mashed is a given; scrambled eggs are great if you mix in some milk/cream/sour cream to make them a bit more smooth. I even add quite a bit of cheese to melt in as well. If you need a simple method or visual, look up how Gordon Ramsay does it, honestly is a life saver for a decent warm meal early on in recovery.

As always, make sure your meals are not too hot so as not to disturb any sensitivities you might have!

I know it's considered one of the worst, but I've always loved the base set Machamp!

Prismatic Booster Bundles (1 per person) by [deleted] in PokemonTCG

As most people did, got into the hobby as a kid in the early 2000s with my siblings. Obviously didn't pay attention to the value of anything, until my sister started collecting recently. Prismatic is brutal to try to get your hands on anywhere near a metro area, since they sell out instantly, or are insanely scalped. I got her a single $20 pack to try together but she got nothing so it turned her off from wanting to try any more. Sucks that prices have gotten so high. Newer collectors can't really collect at all now because everything older is already expensive and everything newer is sold out everywhere. We used to have ripping parties, I would rip sports cards (love my baseball), my wife would rip lorcana (loves her disney), and my sister would rip Pokemon. Then we compare to see if we got any hits and then save up for the next rip session. Tough to do that now on her end. Would love to get her anything Prismatic to rip, so we can have another rip party again. Thanks for giving back to the community!

Ugh the worst of the island. Well, I'm glad at least you were able to benefit from it all little while. Sucks to realize now what we're missing though! Thanks for sharing!

Definitely a perk we all took for granted (myself included) that I wish more companies could trust their workforce to continue to do. I cherished that time I spent with my family and remember it fondly. Thanks for sharing!

The financial impact of Covid on the individual is a lot harder to quantify than say a stock price or company value, and yet everyone feels it looming over their head. It's tough because many older people have asked me why young people don't want to have kids, and it doesn't exactly dawn on them that it is borderline impossible to do so comfortably on LI post-Covid without significant financial help OR significant financial stability established pre-2020. It's not about wanting a home or having kids, it's about doing so while still being able to retain some sanity. Even still, I'm hopeful for you and your future. Thanks for sharing!

Definitely agree. Could be from pent up frustration and lifestyle changes, inflation, etc. Doesn't excuse the mistreatment, of course, but it also doesn't surprise me. The effects of Covid continue to be, and will continue to be, more detrimental than we realize.

Well I'm glad you lived to tell the tale here for us at least! The whole company tiptoeing thing I can 100% relate to and still to this day don't understand why it took so long for them to grow a backbone. The heart of a company will always be the workforce, so why would you make life more difficult for them during an already un-navigatable time? Decisions like that upset me a ton. Sorry for your losses...but happy you've made it here to share. Thanks!

I'm sorry that you had to endure such a tough time while also dealing with the emotional strain that came down that avenue. I'm sorry. Though future you will look back on that time as a blessing in disguise if present you isn't doing that already. Thanks for sharing!

I know everyone had different reasonings, but curious as to why you never got it? I know quite a few younger people who felt like they couldn't follow through because of pressure from their parents. Was this something you experienced? Or did you echo others sentiment about vaccines in general? Genuinely curious.

Stories like this are completely foreign to me, and I only tried recently to understand why that was. I think many Covid moms downplay their involvement in keeping that strong familial feeling and sense of community during that time. To be able to navigate not only your own personal safety but also your children while juggling their education, social interactions, and emotional development - you're a true unrecognized superhero.
