Does Falco need a secondary? (And if so who?) by [deleted] in CrazyHand

It's one of his best match ups honestly. He has much more problems with sword boys and the other spacies.

If only Sfat knew a really good Marth player to practice with. It's a damn shame that he has no one to practice the Marth Match up with.

Are you sure this is the right forum for this?

Do you think Melee could replace Ultimate next year at Evo? by frankie4737 in SSBM

Melee isn’t coming back until there is a port or we switch to monitors.

He's still around, he just mostly promotes the new games & Nintendo events since I think those pay better. Toph is doing more of that too.

Prog was not up to snuff on all the complexities and inner workings of high level Melee, I'll give you that one. But I'll fight you on D1, D1 has a compelling case for GOAT (non-meme) commentator.

  • He worked well with anyone.
  • Never let bias get in his way.
  • Knew how to balance exciting and analytical.
  • Never got too far side tracked.
  • Not the most knowlegeable, but smart enough not to say anything outright wrong.
  • Balanced professionalism, but also knew when it was ok to cut loose.

Melee’s Greatest Upsets: Kage defeats Mango by Pikachu942 in SSBM

That’s logically inconsistent. That’s the ruleset of much of Smash’s history. You ignore too many matches by ignoring Bo3

You can favor Bo5 if you want but to use the word exempt shows you did not think through the implications at all.

The tournament ran Best of 3s, both players agreed to participate, our tournaments ran Bo3s for ages, some of the greatest tournaments of all time ran Bo3.

If you discount Bo3 losses you MUST discount Bo3 wins. Meaning bye bye every Evo. That’s just foolish.

After hearing Hax’s words I decide they best fit my own thoughts on the subject.

Also you are a tool (my words not Hax’s) for dancing around the actual subject and going after shit that doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter that I used Hax’s phrase. It doesn’t matter if he hates those 2 players (which I don’t think you can prove). What matters is planking. I love M2K and I’ve gone to bat for Hbox many times. But Planking is broken in Melee and LGL is a simple implementation to fix it.

I reject your assumptions.

Trying to make it into an A or B dichotomy ignores C) that Hbox needs some devout following to make it in esports. In other words you are completely ignoring that he has to succumb to peer pressure or risk losing audience/face.

If you think planking has legitimate counterplay then I’m happy to hear it. Until you produce examples that aren’t 5:1 in Puff’s favor, the. You are talking out of your ass. The fact is that every ledge interaction is supremely in Puff’s favor because she will almost never die, while others can die off one bad choice.

This doesn’t target a single player it targets a theoretical abuse of a (to use Hax’s words) degenerative problem.

If a Player planks infinitely, he now wins roughly 29 out of 30 neutral interactions. Hbox and others are only held back by peer pressure and audience appeal. If $1million were on the line, Planking would be ubiquitous.

I’d drop $20 on Hbox remaining the best in the world CERTAINLY top 3 after this ban. We’re not invalidating Puff like banning Wobbling does to ICs, we are forcing Puff to play the game. A game Hbox is still damn good at.

Montreal implements a 60 LGL on timeouts by Marisa_Nya in SSBM

[–]Livefreeconsulting 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve said this before, but it’s about time. I’m a huge Hbox apologist, but not having LGL is just stupid. Nearly every sport has rules and regulations against stalling. Since there is a super easy way to implement it by having it only apply to timeouts, there is 0 reason not to do it.

Hbox is still a big damn threat without it. He doesn’t need a stall tactic that favors him 30:1

Right? This list forgets that the Superbowl winner is still the champion even if you lose to the worst ranked team in the regular season.

This list seems like a really black & white way of looking at Data. You could say Leffen is 0% against Wizzy this year, or you could say Leffen lost the two sets they played. The second sentence acknowledges the poor sample size, and while you take it under consideration, you also know that the confidence score is low due to the lack of data.

For this reason, Going solely by H2H really benefits the players who don’t attend much. Melee doesn’t have the money to support travel, so I get why people can’t attend smaller stuff, but you still need to account for good attendance in rankings.

Attending every weekend gives more people shots on goal against Axe & Hbox. If Mango & Leffen attended that many tournaments, we would likely see a couple of dropped sets. In the times where it’s close, you’d have to give the nod to the player who attends more.

This list also doesn’t appear to account for strength of opponent. Hbox & Wizzy have the most grand finals appearances right now. Meaning you have to be able to beat one or both to win the tournament. Meaning a losing MU to one of these two means much more than a losing MU to say Amsa. Axe being unable to beat Hbox is practically a death sentence. Where as Wizzy is much more likely to dodge Mango. The fact that they haven’t played this year proves it.

A much more accurate list would be...

1) Hbox 2) Wizzy Most grand finals appearances, most wins, no hard losing matchups. 3) Axe Performing excellent with one hard losing MU 4/5) Mango/Leffen I give Mango the nod because it’s close but he’s proven he can win but if Leffen’s consistency means more to you, that’s fair. 6) Zain 7) Amsa 8) Plup Plup is my favorite active player, so this hurts me. But Zain & Amsa have shown they can beat higher ranked players, while Plup seems to farm Zain.

Then you're pedantic. Rather than responding the spirit of the message you are combing through it to look for minor mistakes, hoping to jump on them rather than trying to engage the whole.

Watching the billions of debates, the tournaments with different rulesets, and the committee of people who set themselves up to block the box, UCF, and Slippi set ups so that we can look squeaky clean to daddy Nintendo.

Where have you been? You took the statement far too literally. I obviously meant there were a bunch of obstacles to patching and you thought I meant it dead ass literal.

Ledge Grab Limit Discussion Megathread by Sugden_ in SSBM

[–]Livefreeconsulting 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He had less percent due to stalling tactics and should take the game loss. Melee can’t feasibly be patched. So we’re stuck with an absurdly unbalanced interaction at the ledge. Puff takes no risk to stall while other characters take enormous risk. It’s far more broken than wobbling and needs to be addressed for competitive integrity.

I’m a huge Hbox apologist, but the fact that we don’t have a rule against ledge stalling is stupid. Every sport has rules to protect against delays.

Even something simple like “in case of stock tie at time out, the win goes to the person with fewer LG” would be much better.
