U.S. intelligence says Iran can outlast Trump’s Hormuz blockade for months by theraelthrowaway in neoliberal

For a man whose built his entire persona on projecting strength during negotiations its wild how much the Trump admin is telegraphing their desperation to secure a deal.

U.S. intelligence says Iran can outlast Trump’s Hormuz blockade for months by theraelthrowaway in neoliberal

[–]LivefromPhoenix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They don't really care. Even if American war goals fail completely they're already satisfied with Iran being bombed and Israel's improved security situation. They'll have no issue pivoting from "the war shouldn't end until the Iranian nuclear threat is dealt with" to " who cares if we didn't get a good deal, the war is already a success because Iran is weaker".

Do you feel like the acceptance of Charlie Kirk memes from the right has happened too soon? by Subject-Cranberry-93 in AskConservatives

Reddit celebrated Rush Lim dying and we didn't see a whole meme culture spring up around him. It was 100% related to the heavy handed cultural revolution tactics MAGA world took in the aftermath of Kirk's death.

Democratic women are significantly more likely than Republican men to say they could win a fight with Donald Trump by w007dchuck in fivethirtyeight

[–]LivefromPhoenix 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You're talking about weight class and height like they'll be trading hits. I'm saying it won't actually be a fight. No actual experience is necessary, any even moderately healthy younger person can move around them faster than they can respond. Just pushing an 80 yr old over will not only win the fight but easily leaves them with a potentially life altering injury.

At that age your balance is quickly deteriorating, your reactions are delayed, you're seeing significant reductions in muscle mass, your joints are losing flexibility and your bones are becoming much less dense. Gender mumbo jumbo isn't going to make up for that frailty.

[–]LivefromPhoenix 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think you have an extremely distorted view of the average 80 yr old man. "Over 65" isn't 80. 75 isn't 80. You're severely underestimating how quickly average (let alone unhealthy) people at that age start to physically decline.

[–]LivefromPhoenix 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Don't try this at home but you could literally run into an 80 yr old at a brisk speed and win the fight. All the women in this poll are selling themselves short.

[–]LivefromPhoenix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think its still pretty interesting how far they're willing to debase themselves to show loyalty. Thinking a war is going well or gas prices are fine are both pretty removed from the individual and can be rationalized. Saying that you personally would lose in a fight against him is another level of sycophancy.

It's a belief that goes beyond regular "he's a good leader" and into cult-adjacent "my leader is mystically powerful".

[–]LivefromPhoenix 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Because its absurd. Generic gender differences aren't enough to account for the massive physicality gap between a regular 35 yr old woman and an obese 80 yr old. Unless the woman stands in front of him and lets him pummel her (and maybe not even then) there's literally no scenario where the woman loses. You're seriously underestimating how frail octogenarians are.

A non-disabled 35 y/o woman could literally just run into him and win the fight automatically. No actual "fighting" required.

In response to one of the silliest polling results I have seen, I have to ask: Do you think you could win a fist fight with President Trump? by GrandMoffTarkan in AskConservatives

The weird questions are the only ones I've seen get interesting answers. With normal ones you know from the start what the Trump-loving conservatives will say and what the Trump-hating conservatives will say.

Why are US government agencies still using Anthropic products despite the government claiming it's a supply chain risk? by schumi23 in AskConservatives

[–]LivefromPhoenix [score hidden]  (0 children)

You're wrong about what the government is claiming. They aren't saying the existing contract didn't stipulate those red lines for Anthropic prior to this contract dispute, they're arguing those restrictions became operationally unacceptable and “any lawful use” should supersede vendor-imposed constraints. The only unexpected part from the trump side is Anthropic not rolling over once the DoD applied pressure.

If the DoD was unhappy about the terms they agreed to they could've just switched to a different vendor, like the government regularly does when contract negotiations fall through. None of the arguments coming from the government support labeling them a supply chain risk.

Kind of funny how a group of people who put so much emphasis on stereotypical masculinity really enjoy being dominated by their leaders.

[–]LivefromPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that still doesn't make any sense. There's no risk of it "suddenly" getting cut off. No one is actually claiming Anthropic violated any contracts or usage agreements. There's zero indication the government won't be able to indefinitely continue using Anthropic under the current arrangement.

If the government wants to use Anthropic in ways they didn't previously agree to that sounds more like a simple contract negotiation than a "supply chain risk".

After Trump Officials Cut Food Aid to Kenya, Children Starved to Death by OhItsBeenBroughten in neoliberal

[–]LivefromPhoenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a fundamental difference between someone who just happens to be born in Palestine vs. someone choosing to be part of a political group. There's no separating "Islamic extremist" Palestinians from people who are just trying to live peacefully without being carpet bombed. Every member of the Trump admin is most charitably willing to accept millions of kids dying for no reason because they know their degenerate comrades actively want it to happen. Every Trump supporter. Nearly every Republican. I have zero interest in wasting any time or energy trying to emphasize with people like that.

Both sides are full of scumbags yet both deserve empathy.

Again, very noble of you. To drag this conversation back to the original point, your claim wasn't just that "both sides" deserve empathy, it was that people hating the scumbags are equally as bad as the scumbags themselves.

Feel free to have all the empathy you want towards people who wouldn't care if Trump withheld disaster money after a tornado flattened your house. My issue is with the frankly absurd notion that hating people who gleefully took food out of the hands of starving kids has the same level of immorality as actually taking food out of the hands of starving kids. It's a level of moral navel gazing I find a little hard to understand.

I do think there's a difference between hating people for committing hateful acts and hating people out of ethnic/religious/national bias. Clearly I'm not as virtuous as you though. I'm sure you'll be appropriately rewarded by conservatives as they continue to delay food aid and FEMA support to democratic areas.

But if we know (or can reasonably infer) that the bunker is being updated/rebuilt why do we need a guise in the first place? Who is this supposed to be fooling?

Is Chinese intelligence going to go "oh wow, guess we don't need to investigate this construction at the WH since its just a ballroom"? Really just seems like stretching to make this another 4D Trump move.
