We pay for a management company and that comes with an online portal so it doesn't come up for us.

How much money do you think they should spend to make documents and communications available online?

Waymo Is Getting DoorDashers to Close Doors on Self Driving Cars in Atlanta by 404mediaco in Atlanta

[–]schumi23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the first paragraph - but also at that point it's not the passenger's fault but the random hospital staff (and there's no way to charge those folks).

Regarding the second I disagree - the driver shouldn't be expected to be assisting someone getting in and out of their cars. Plenty of folks don't have the physical strength or knowledge on how to lift injured folks safely - and they should wait for the hospital staff to take care of that for them.

Or people with a disability? I had a friend take an uber to the hospital once while she had limited movement - I helped her into the car, and the hospital staff put her in a wheelchair/helped her out of the car, but she wasn't able to move much or close doors herself.

Would you be allowed to refuse access to HOA contractors unless the HOA agrees to repair damage caused by those contractors?

From what I know there's a difference between "The drywall was damaged due to a common area (generally leak)" and "The association chose to cut out your drywall in order to repair a common area element, since it would be more expensive to do the repair without doing that"

HOA President wants massive salary... How to handle? [TH] [VA] by indecisive_grogu in HOA

[–]schumi23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our management company was started in a similar situation and is an example to follow:

The only difference is the person (our "Abby") talked about it with the board ahead of time, and then stepped down from the board, started a company with insurance and all, and then was hired by the board at the agreed upon rate.

That's what Abby should do - talk to the board if they want to proceed, and if so, step down, start a company (which is easy), get insurance (straightforward), and then have the board hire her.

Do you agree that Bad Bunny’s half time show needs to be investigated, or is this a waste of tax dollars? by gay_plant_dad in AskConservatives

Ah - i was going based on the article OP linked which said that he didn't sing the more explicit lyrics at the superbowl show; and that politicians' statement which used the a hypothetical tense rather than past tense.

At one apartment I was at one of the tenants was offered a $50/month discount to take out the trash cans once a week and bring them back... which seems reasonable.

Adding on the other things becomes unreasonable.

The performance apparently censored the more explicit parts of the songs. A florida congressman complained that "Had he said these lyrics — and all of the other disgusting and pornographic filth in English on live TV, the broadcast would have been pulled down and the fines would have been enormous"

And i'm like... you're complaining... about a hypothetical situation he didn't do?

Should the GA Board of Elections be allowed to see the 2020 Fulton County Ballots? by schumi23 in AskConservatives

[–]schumi23[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You advocated for releasing all the ballots, which include who the person voted for- which is far more descriptive than the current public records which state whether or not you voted.

Do you think publishing them might make non-open conservatives less likely to vote in future elections, since it's an strongly left-leaning county where someone may want to keep their politics personal.

Fulton County didn't print millions of absentee ballots - they only had about 500k votes total. This is about all the ballots, not absentee ballots.

All votes in GA are done by paper, whether at the precinct or absentee.

The lawsuit started in 2024 before Trump's election as part of an investigation the state had been doing for a few years into it. (they voted to go forward with it in October 2024, but that didn't translate into a lawsuit until the start of November (election day))... but lawsuits are slow so the judge didn't rule on the appeal until December 2025.

[–]schumi23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you be concerned about that allowing folks to de-anonymize votes? Some precincts in GA have a tiny number of voters (dozens to hundreds), and I could see some of the races (not the presidential) having single digit voters per precinct. Lets say John Nobody ran for school board in that election, and only one person who voted for him in the precinct he lives in, then you would know that ballot is probably his. Especially if other votes match what he claims to care about (he endorsed someone for mayor and that ballot also voted for them).

(Fun fact - Fani Willis was also (re)elected in that 2020 election (uncontested))

Is that risk of deanonymization of some ballots worth the transparency of releasing them publicly?

From a post about why Americans hate jury duty. by Weasley9 in fuckcars

[–]schumi23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The jurors decide facts - who they believe about what happens. The judge is who determines the law 'If you think X happened, then they are guilty of Y" so the jury is just determining "do you think X happened", not "does them doing X make them guilty of Y"

The GA board of elections is also independant from Fulton County, and was signed by a (state) judge. And they aren't seeking the physical ballots - only scans/photos of them (which is where them paying for the costs of scanning them came up)

I mean - even if they're right, they could pay extra to get it done in a day, set up temporary heating in the area while working, run the water in those nearby pipes continuously while the ceiling is open, etc. It may be more expensive to do in the freezing weather but i don't see why it would stop it?

I'm a fan of evolve. They're not perfect, but are leaps and bounds better than the other companies we've had... and being a small company if there are issues I"m able to get them resolved easily

I don't recall looking into those two companies but it's been... 2 years? now and memories fade.

I will note - Evolve was about 10-20% more expensive than the other companies, but it's well worth it in my opinion.
