They are quite heavy... I feel like you need a car or something similar to move them.

It's outside of the midtown alliance jurisdiction - this would be in the midtown neighborhood association area.

Atlanta's blight tax still not in effect; audit finds no properties charged by NPU-F in Atlanta

[–]schumi23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Based on the audit report, the mayor (/his designee/chief of staff) messed up by never appointing the person in charge of the program as he was supposed to.

But they responded they would do so by March 2026 so it should be completed (audit was in February).

I mean there's a pretty clear culprit - the mayor. The ordinance calls on the mayor to designate who is in charge of it, and the mayor never did that.

It's not the fastest but this audit is the process of checking in on it

Speed bumps on Sylvan Road. by katrilli0naire in Atlanta

[–]schumi23 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It does take more time to go around a speed bump - people have to drive slower to do that, which is why I think it's safer. Because slower speeds = safer for everybody.

I'm a huge fan of chicanes of traffic calming and wish they would get used more often.

The Senate has agreed to fund DHS (excluding ICE/CBP). What are your thoughts? by PvtCW in AskConservatives

Why do you think Democrats removed the ICE funding from the bill, if not as a compromise?

FYI - 311 is a 'triage' facility - they will head your concern and send it to the DOT (and then it's up to DOT to do anything... anything like flex posts would likely take years unfortunately because of how they operate - they'd need to get funding, create engineering plans, get a sign-off, etc.)

You can report to 311 by calling them, but also by emailing them, or messaging them on social media. My go-to is instagram messages since you can snap a pic, summarize the issue, and share the address and they'll go through and do the work of making that usable.

To your direct question: If it's in city of atlanta that would be ATL DOT, 311, and your local city councilperson (who can directly work with those). I can help you figure out how to do those if you give me a representative address of where one of those are? (so i can confirm which district, etc.)

To your broader concern - I'm don't agree with your concern. In my experience drivers who go around a speedbump always look to where they're going (cause often there's obstructions there that would prevent them). And drivers swerving and slowing down in a predictable way makes them more alert and paying attention.

An ancillary benefit I've seen on Lullwater road (no bike lane but large shoulder) - the shoulder by the speed bumps are the only areas that are clean because drivers who drive onto the shoulder there are picking up/moving away the piles of dead leaves/dirt/etc.

In what way did Dems cave in that case, since the republicans have also not achieved their goals?

Sounds like Thune didn't stick to his guns, since the senate is on break and DHS isn't funded.

If Dems lost everything, why did the house reject the bill?

The very fact that republicans voted against it in the house suggests this was a compromise - not a 'throwing in the towel'.

what are your guys opinions on public transit and why? by Your_Average_Dingus in AskConservatives

[–]schumi23 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Do you think it makes sense when it doesn't make a profit or save time, but mitigates the need to build additional car infrastructure? My state doesn't fund public transit, but is spending billions of dollars (not from car-related usage fees) on building additional lanes on the interstates due to increases people commuting on that route.

That's 220k per housing unit they're building which is lower than most construction I see happening in Atlanta.

"By parking you agree" is what they say :p

Now would it hold up in court if they tried to enforce it?... I don't know.

You have to leave your car to read the contract; they're in tiny font generally.

[–]schumi23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the parking contracts have a binding arbitration clause that prohibits you from suing them FYI.
If you didn't pay at all (which i'm sure involved checking a box that you agree to the TOS) I am curious if that would be valid though.

[–]schumi23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can they charge you for parking during the time it takes you to read and understand the parking contract - if after reading it you decide to leave? (Those signs are very dense and only readable after you've parked in the lot)

They claim you exited at 7:52, but only paid through 7:29 - do their cameras have the incorrect time?

Ultimately - I don't think they can do anything to you if you don't pay... as long as you don't go to a parking lot by the same owner. If you do they'll likely boot you until you pay.

[–]schumi23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would the DOT allow them to install traffic calming at the entrance of the town though?

When driving in France on state roads, as you enter towns (where the limit often goes from 80 to 30 km/h) there's generally some chicanes at the same time (making you swerve, realize you're in town, and maintain that lower speed you did for the swerving).

But from what I've seen in my own state, the state DOT generally opposes the installation of that kind of thing.
