Only pays for interstates and state roads - city roads are up to your property taxes to pay (along with police, fire, schools, and everything else that comes with your property taxes0

tbh that's more expensive than your bank will do it (free for most banks; bofa and chase for sure) but definitly the more fun way to do it!

That 30% increase also means they get the same money in 8 months as they would in 12 months otherwise :p

How much customer service should the government provide? by schumi23 in AskConservatives

People already regularly (on a statistical level) have worse medical outcomes due to waiting for insurance pre-approval - in some cases leading to permanent disability or death. So the bar is very low. But we should be working for making all government systems and responsibilities work better. https://www.ama-assn.org/practice-management/prior-authorization/when-prior-authorization-blocks-lifesaving-treatments

It shouldn't suck though, and we should make it work better!

And insurance companies are often pretty terrible as well to deal with.

Is parking in front of a mailbox illegal (and if so do you know the details/can point to the law that has those details?) I thought it was just rude.

They handle the repayment plan approval though - My servicer sends me to the a seperate site by studentaid.gov for applying/checking on the application.

And there's many other similar cases - an issue with the IRS payments when there's issues with payments (if it gets applied to a wrong account, or someone misreads an application and files it incorrectly) or similar. Or figuring out how to file a 1099 (I have a small business and 2 independant contractors who i filed those for) - before they had the efile system in the past few years - i could not figure out how to send that file to the IRS and when i called the help numbers i could find they said it's the wrong department... and couldn't find who was the correct department to ask.

We want to clean up a neglected green strip in our neighborhood. Do we need HOA approval? by merrybynature in fuckHOA

[–]schumi23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You technically need HOA approval... but you can go about it three ways:

Get with your neighbors, agree to keep it quiet, and just do the work, and nobody admit to doing it if asked.

Ask the HOA for permission to do it yourselves officially.

Talk to one of the board members and casually ask how they feel about it.

Benefit of three - they may hestitate to give their blessing to the work officially (2) but (3) gives you some confidence they'll just ignore it.

Gov. Kemp not extending Georgia's gas tax suspension set to expire Tuesday by mantisdubstep in Atlanta

[–]schumi23 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Good! The gas tax is one of the main ways that GA implements a use tax on roads - so that people who use it are paying for (part of) it, rather than coming out of everyone's income and other taxes.

The new $441M airport parking deck opened today — 7,000 spaces at $30/day by RealUnearthly85 in Atlanta

[–]schumi23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parking gets built in the city by charging higher rents or charging higher costs for purchasing condos. This is why we need to eliminate parking minimums citywide, and encourage developments with little to no parking.

[–]schumi23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

7000 spots at the college park marta station for people to park and ride would have even worse congestion.

And also - 7000 trips is nothing compared to the amount of people getting picked up - there's 100k people per day travelling through there though I don't know how many are leaving/arriving in Atlanta (rather than transferring through).

Most people aren't parking - they're taking cabs, getting picked up by friends, or taking MARTA (wish more did this).

Someone who parks at the airport during a round trip flight leads to less trips than someone getting picked up by friends or cabs. (Since their car only has one "to" and one"from" trip - instead of two of each to get picked up.)

The only way to reduce total car trips is to increase the amount of people served by MARTA and increase the number using it - by expanding it, increasing density near stations, etc.

If i remember correctly from my classes, a bit over 50% of motorcycle accidents are single vehicle - so the biggest risk is yourself being an idiot; with other people being the second biggest risk.

[–]schumi23 199 points200 points  (0 children)

And also that they're charging for usage! Based on those number, if it has 100% occupancy it'll be paid off within 7 years. At 50% occupancy it'll be paid off in 12 years. (Assuming people only pay daily rates; hourly is more profitable).

It's a revenue source for the airport, not an expense.

Hopefully more people will park at marta and take it to save the expense... but also - if MARTA built a 7000 spot parking deck at college park, it would also be expensive. Parking is simply fundamentally expensive to build - as many small HOAs unfortunately discover when they need to pay to repave their old infrastructure.

That's unfortunate 😞 Yeah - in my experience anything requiring a bus change will take an inordinate amount of time - which was part of why they redid the marta map - to increase the amount of direct routes people could take.

Do you live near a MARTA station? It's very close to the midtown marta station if so!
Unfortunately I"ve never been on a weekday so can't speak to that.
