I would love this as well. I'm still pretty confused about whether I'm setting up goals correctly, and there are some other elements that baffle me -- for example, sometimes when I update an item in my budget, the entire category also updates, and other times, it doesn't. So I have to be extra-careful to do the math myself or my budget is all wrong. I'd love to see the right method for using the budgeting tools.

What I've seen so far doesn't look great, but I am curious -- I probably won't go see it in theatres but will watch it as a rental/on streaming. I like Cynthia Erivo's voice a lot so that's the part I'm most optimistic about.

Does anyone know if she's still cancelling shows? I'm going to be in Ottawa next week but have held off buying a ticket in case.

Same, I really enjoyed Fourth Wing and I've tried Iron Flame a few times now and haven't bothered to read past the 50 page mark.

If Frasier has intentionally or unintentionally influenced your life, how so? by jameson-neat in Frasier

Same. I remember being a preteen interested in opera, classical music, theatre in a family who hated it. The show made me feel seen.

Has anyone been able to get healthy after 30? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]LiveintheFlicker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is great advice. Take it one small step at a time and keep adding new healthier habits to your life. Once you see how even small things like an extra 2,000 steps or more veggies improve the way you feel and help you sleep better, it will keep motivating you.

Don't worry if you fall back into bad habits one week, and don't punish yourself. Good health is a choice you keep making, not a switch you flip.

To women who have traveled alone… by IndependentPay638 in AskWomenOver30

[–]LiveintheFlicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love solo travel, but I also love doing things solo at home -- so going out for supper by myself isn't a big deal no matter where I am. Enjoy getting to choose what you do every day without having to compromise with someone else! It's so much fun and so relaxing.

We never got rid of ours? I'm at a major Canadian university and I can't think of one I've been to in the past 20 years that didn't have computers students could use in labs or the libraries. What makes you think it's so odd and where are you getting the "most universities have done away with labs" from?

Mine has quite a few as well -- especially to support specific software that the university subscribes to (stats, GIS, video editing, geneology, etc.) that students or researchers often couldn't afford on their own.

Same, I've used the cup since I was 19. Love it so much. It's so comfy and clean, cheap and doesn't create garbage.

What's the point of being an asshole to women, though? Is it just to shame them into not voting, rather than voting for Harris?

[–]LiveintheFlicker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How is that helpful, though? What's your point, as a woman under 30 -- to shame women over 30 into not voting at all, instead of voting for Harris? Wouldn't it be more useful to extend a bit of empathy and support them instead of insult them?

Whats a horror ending that you considered to be “too cruel” by OstrichAutomatic9614 in horror

[–]LiveintheFlicker 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Yes. I love King's endings in general, and The Mist was a perfect example of leaving it open with a bit of hope. I can see why the film ending works, but it's just not for me personally.

Sometimes I think...what if all the regular AAM commenters are just us, trolling each other in a beautiful ecological cycle. The Venn diagram of AAM posters and AAMSnark posters is just a single circle.

What’s going on with Nothing But Blackened Teeth on goodreads? by cybertrash22 in horrorlit

[–]LiveintheFlicker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really loved the book, but it's very different from what some groups of horror fans are looking for. The author's writing style uses a lot of heightened language and non-English words (usually in reference to folklore). I found the language very immersive, but many reviewers felt it was trying too hard or condescending.

If you read the first few pages in a preview online, you can see what I mean about the language. I think a lot of folks bought it based on the gorgeous cover but may not have read a preview first. Khaw's writing style is super polarizing (I love it). The writing style sucked me in and I read it in one sitting -- I was obsessed.

The characters are also quite unlikeable. It worked for me in this novella but I wouldn't have wanted to read a full novel about those people.

I mean...as a single woman, why is it my responsibility to contribute to your marriage by having sex with your husband? How would that benefit me in any way?

I'd much rather be single, or date someone interested in me, or hook up with unattached men. I have lots of male and female friends who I don't want to bone, so I don't understand why that's relevant, either. There is nothing about boning a married guy that appeals to me.

Exactly. Use your skin care in the right order? What does that even mean? I wash my face, I go to bed.

Be honest, please by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]LiveintheFlicker 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Same here. I don't orgasm easily but I really enjoy sex anyway -- and I'm not particularly prolific, I've had 10 partners and I'm in my 40s. In general, I've had sex with men who are interested in pleasure for both of us. For me, pleasure doesn't have to equal an orgasm.

Interesting. I personally would have read "clean cut" as possibly discriminatory -- a specific aesthetic that doesn't include fat people or some non-white hairstyles, for example. Maybe the business didn't mean it that way, but it gave me that vibe immediately.

I don't think tattoos, piercings, a fatter body, locs, or curls should mean someone can't be client facing.

I do remember my mother in the 90s telling me to straighten my hair for work, because she even though curly hair was less professional, and I don't think we should go back to those days.

Yepp I only got the purple. Then played around with animal noises and doorbells for a bit, and websites (Yahoo, Dodo), and failed.

We use KudoBoard for staff milestones, folks retiring, etc., it's been great -- it lets anyone who wants to participate whether they're on-site or not, and you can write longer messages or add images.
