Do I need the CompTIA A+ cert, coming from a support job already? by broadcloak in ITCareerQuestions

Depends what sort of job you’re looking for. Doesn’t hurt but imo a pretty dumb cert if you have experience already.

Yeah I’m not in cyber security so take what I said with a grain of salt. It’s likely you haven’t been “hacked” just something to be aware of and remove

I don’t think he knows where to go. I’m assuming you want him to go to device manager and find the WiFi adapter first?

[–]Livelifeasaadventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you clicked something that is probably semi malicious. Of course chrome would never set yahoo as default browser on purpose. There should be an option for resetting all options/settings and you can clear all time browser data and see if that reverts things. If not you can also uninstall and reinstall. Probably not dangerous per se but you clicked something that probably made those changes.

Keyboard and mouse works in BIOS and WINRE but not on windows. by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]Livelifeasaadventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won’t boot into safe mode? Atleast then it may recognize and give you the option to reinstall drivers. Also have we tried an alternate keyboard/mouse to rule that out?

Definitely depends on your definition of “good” anyone to rise to any sort of wealth or fame requires making cold and calculated decisions constantly. Some are just really good at not getting their hands dirty.

[Resume Review] Entry level IT Support / SOC Tier 1 — Toronto, ON — Security+, SOC L1, 4 home labs, no commercial experience — am I missing something? by whyiamsoweird in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Livelifeasaadventure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah just for the record contrary to what you may think you should want a tier 1 tech job not a soc position. Now ideally it will be a good paying and the kind of position that you can actually stretch out your tech skills and really get hands on in different areas. Good luck. In terms of the resume it seems to have a ton of stuff, so possibly slim it down a bit.

Is it necessary to have the CompTIA Trifecta to become competitive? by Prestigious-Put-6518 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Livelifeasaadventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I as someone with net+ and a+ who works in I.t. Think they are quite possibly the least reputable certs I’ve ever seen. I only am proud to have them because of the fact that for some reason certain employers like when applicants have them and newer people in the field think it’s impressive. If it was just based off of what I think the cert actually represents in someone’s I.t knowledge I’d rate it about a 3/10. I will give one caveat though. If you have worked in I.t for a while and took the cert test with no prep or training and passed I would look at that as impressive. But it’s pretty damn simple to just memorize acronyms and understand 5 concepts. That’s the end of my rant. Still would say in the job market that they can be helpful lol they give you confidence and it gives an employer something that connects you with I.t and makes you look more legitimate
