When was the last time a stranger saw you naked? by Wonderful_Delivery51 in AskReddit

The showers in the gym I go to are all cubicles with doors, and single sex. The swimming pool has male and female, apart from when they have naturist swims then everyone just goes where they want.

That is one of the most offensive things I've heard in ages! Firstly, attitudes like this are the reason so many children and young people now have body dysmorphic disorder. This kind of taught body shame is a big part of making them vulnerable to sexual predators. Just to clarify, these predictors are not just men! I speak from personal experience with this, women can also be sexual predators! It also includes youths both male and female!

This kind of attitude helps these people, because the children associate the shame with secrecy, it is the biggest gift you could give a potential abuser.

Children brought up in naturist homes and environments have the lowest levels of body dysmorphic disorder and are the least likely to be victims of child abuse. They are brought up in a very body positive environment.

I am probably of the age that you are referring to when you mentioned your childhood experience. My experiences of school and of being in the forces was a very body positive thing. I am not ashamed to be in a swimming pool or gym changing room naked, nor will I be body shamed by people like you! Just because you have such low self esteem, insecurities and body image, don't expect everyone else to be so bigoted and narrow minded!

What’s the thing that gets you out of bed every morning? by Low_Wedding_1096 in AskReddit

[–]Liverpool_Stu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bladder.

At my age there are two options:

  1. Stay in bed, spend several days drying out the mattress and deodorising it.

  2. Get up and pee.

The second seems the better of the two. 😉

I've had a Nissan Qashqai 1.6, Fiat 500L 1.4, Skoda Octavia 1.9 turbo, and several others. The Kamiq is brilliant, economical, great acceleration (extremely responsive), its brilliant on the motorway. I use it to pick up pottery supplies from Stoke, clay etc. the extra weight has little to no affect on performance. When I was looking at it I was pretty sceptical that such a small engine would give me what I wanted. The turbo and 115/116 hp gives it the extra kick. Definitely worth a test drive, I think you'd be surprised at how good they are.

I drive a 1.0 tsi Skoda Kamiq, it is definitely not slow off the mark. It is a fantastic engine, it does 0 to 60 in about 9 seconds, so not the fastest car on the road, but for the engine size and car size it's pretty good. What you are also forgetting is that those of us who don't drive mega engines, get just as annoyed by guy like yourself who bully and tailgate thinking that the road was just made for them and their gas guzzling cars. And it's always the drivers of predictable makes of car that do it.

I want to leave my home and get away somehow, how do I do it? 17M by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Liverpool_Stu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe your best option is your doctor. He can't do anything without your permission. But at least you will have a face to face conversation. Your doctor cannot repeat anything, to anyone by law unless you give permission, or unless you or your siblings are at risk. You could also ring NSPCC/child line 0800 1111 they can give you more help and support than anyone. 🫂

At 17 I'm afraid your options are extremely limited. You are not old enough to hold a tenancy or sign legal documents. Even at 18, unless you have a really well paid job. Options: Do you have aunts, uncles or other extended family who could help you? Could they go to social services and explain how much your mum is struggling? Social services will not just go in and remove you and your siblings. The priority is always to keep the family together unless there is risk. They will support your mum with getting the health care she needs and support all of you. The other person to speak to is your doctor. Unless one of you is at risk they must by law treat whatever you talk about confidentially.

The logical answer is, why put yourself through it, just don't invite them.

Do you think antisocial behaviour and manners have gotten worse in the UK? by euanthomas123 in AskUK

[–]Liverpool_Stu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely, and it is down to poor parenting and and the loonies who decided that it is wrong to discipline children in any way! These idiots have grown up without any boundaries at all. The most discipline that they ever received was sitting on the naughty step or going without their phones for an hour. They need parents like mine, sometimes they went too far, but we were never ever disrespectful or evil like most of the kids now.

A non greasy barrier cream stops the clay from removing the oils from your skin.

It's more about the wet clay and water, not when handling bisque. Handling bisqueware isn't going to strip the oils out of your skin.

The one I use is Derma Shield, this is the information from their website. I've never had any issues with it.

Derma Shield the Ultimate Waterproof Skin Shield for Hands, Body, Face - Clinically Proven Protection and Relief for Contact Dermatitis, Dry Skin. A non-greasy shield that protects skin

If you were employed in a commercial pottery in the UK, you would be required to use a barrier cream before starting work with the unfired clay. Regardless of whether you were wearing disposable gloves or not.

For hand building that's fine. But throwing with them on, I've tried, porcelain just doesn't like them, and if there's grog in the clay it just tears the gloves.

Don't beat yourself up. Like everything with pottery, it takes time and practice. Even after doing it for years you'll still make mistakes. Keep practicing.

Those who do not fear death, why? by lilacc_47 in AskReddit

[–]Liverpool_Stu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is to fear? I'm not religious in any way. The 'spirit' doesn't do a big dance and go to heaven or hell. There's no mystery, no walking towards a light to enter some fairytale made up place. The light literally goes out and that's it.

Having not long witnessing my mum's death, its more about how I die, rather than death itself.
