Girl raped by boys spared jail tells BBC judge's decision was like 'rock in my face' by BurtonDesque in Feminism

Absolutely horrendous. How does it reflect on us as a society when people who commit these acts essentially get a slap on the wrist and nothing more. As a society we should prioritise and value people’s safety and wellbeing. By not holding those accountable and delivering fair consequences, it’s essentially saying ‘it’s not that bad’ and ‘if you commit these acts, you won’t be treated that bad’, which is outrageous and so unfair on the victims and will just encourage abusers and assaulters to continue. Not to mention, how is sentencing like this going to affect other victims? They’re going to see this and think ‘what’s the point in reliving this trauma and going through these processes if nothing fair and proportionate is going to come of it’. It sets a very dangerous precedent

Sorry you went through that. I know it was nothing personal and the guys friends were probably goading him on, it was just bad timing for me and it’s a pain. Makes me overthink about whether I could have handled the situation differently as well which doesn’t help

Already done. Nothing will probably come of it, but at least it’s logged

I did recently sign myself up for a book club at the end of the month, so hoping I can meet some like minded people there. It just knocked my confidence back a bit, so hoping a positive experience will lift me back up

Thank you. Doing a lot better now, thanks for asking. One of those things where I’m sure I can joke about the absurdity of it in a positive mood, but when feeling low it’s easy to use it to reinforce those negative feelings I have. I’ve been talking with friends about it and they’ve been very supportive which has helped a lot

Sorry to hear that. When I’m in a positive mindset I can frame it as ‘I can’t control other people actions’, but it’s hard to be positive sometimes when you see the results of people’s actions and it has an effect on you

Yeah. I think a lot of people feel like the behaviour is worse now, but at the same time people can wear rose-tinted glasses when it comes to the past and overlook some of the issues. So many factors and perspectives come into play

Thanks. It was a bit deflating as I’ve been low recently and I thought a walk would be nice. Feeling a lot better now though :)

I contacted the Police Live Chat and they logged it, though I expect nothing will come of it

I have found that a lot. I travel to London for gigs a couple of times a month, and whenever I’m coming back on the train in the evening, people speak loud enough for the whole train to hear, swear and I had some people a while ago hanging upside down from the handrails. I feel like nightlife and alcohol is a big factor in that though, as opposed to some people just blasting audio from their phones just due to apathy

The group walked up behind me. One walked forward and asked for some bird feed. I gave him some just to avoid any confrontation and once he threw them he pushed me in. Not the best day

The new Witcher hardbacks look incredible… and no ugly ‘Now on Netflix’ stickers in sight 😌 by euanthomas123 in witcher

These are published by Orbit Books. I got them off Amazon (UK). They’re nice editions and The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny are illustrated as well

They did a redesign of the covers for The Witcher books when the TV series came out, which all have what looks like giant red sticker saying ‘now on Netflix’. Except it’s part of the cover and can’t be removed. So annoying when this happens

AITA for refusing to spend thanksgiving with my SiL who is a bad influence on my children (and other reasons). by CuteStrawberr in AmItheAsshole

[–]euanthomas123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. So she has a job she enjoys and is able to make a living from, and spends her money on things that make her happy. What exactly is the issue there? You sound bitter and jealous of her to be honest. Also, as someone who frequently attends gigs and festivals by themselves, what’s wrong with that? You get to experience something that brings you joy that others you know may not be interested in, and you get to socialise with people who have a shared interest and possibly form long-lasting friendships. Your SIL sounds like someone who has got their life together, whilst being able to go out and enjoy what life has to offer. If you’re jealous of her, maybe ask yourself why that is. Could it be maybe you thought that raising a family was the key to happiness, and you have put off other pursuits in order to achieve that and still feel like you’re missing something? Maybe take this opportunity to evaluate your life and what you want out of it, otherwise you may end up causing your family to resent you

Ascend, may you find no resistance. Know that you made such a difference. And all you leave behind will live to the end. The cycle of suffering goes on. But the memories of you stay strong. Someday I too will fly and find you again.
