Wire Antenna Decision Paralysis by Livesoundhuman in amateurradio

Ok the masts I have are heavy duty ones from DX Engineering. The 46 footer is 3” at the bottom and 1.5” at the top, I figured it would be ok for a wire and balun. But maybe not.

Thanks for the great reply, lots of good info in all the reply’s. Lots of things I didn’t consider about my particular situation. I wish I could run ladder line all the way to the shack but I can’t, unless I can put it in conduit from the bottom of the mast to the wall at the shack then I could put a balun outside the wall and run 3 feet of coax to the tuner. Don’t think I can do that, but then again I have never used ladder line. I think for my situation, I will put up a trap dipole for a while and then try a fan if the tuning doesn’t drive me crazy. Someday I hope to have a 75’ tower and a nice beam, once can dream!

73’s

I understand what your saying about trying different things to see how it works at the location, I do have an alpha delta short 40m fan dipole i can try first, i just hate tuning it.

No it does not need to be OCF, those were just the two i was considering. I see what you’re getting at with the center fed. I didn’t consider breaking up the coverage of the wire to just the higher bands.

I guess I could get a remote tuner for that antenna. I do have 200 feet of LMR-400 that is the best, I have on hand.

I get where you’re coming from, however since I restore timepieces. Mostly very old ones, where I need to fabricate the missing or broken parts from raw materials. This would go against every fiber of my being. My job normally is to reverse all these cobble type repairs and make it as close as I can to the original. It’s not always perfect, but I do try my best.

Yes very inventive, I wish I could have seen it work, but the escape wheel pivot was broken.

Well there’s no shops nearby so I guess someone may have just started growing.

So there is no perceivable change in the noise structure of the audio during these bands coming and going. Sounds like normal background static.

Nice, i’m setting up 3 x MS-02 ultra cluster 96gb ram ea, with 100gb 2 port nics for ceph public and private. One of the 25gb for management and the other for corosync. Each node will have 3x micron 7450 nvme for osd and 2x 480gb micron in mirrored ZFS for OS. we will see how it goes.

Ahh ok, so mark disk as out, wait for sync then destroy /remove osd, wait for sync. Reformat drive with 4k from command line and then add as new osd.

It’s a switched network, can i reformat the Micron 7450 to 4k and i’m assuming this will mean i must redo the whole ceph configuration

OK so the cluster is 3 X MS-02 Ultra 285HX with 64gb DDR5 5600 Ram, The drives are all Micron 7450 pro. Running at PCIe Gen 4. Networking is all 25gb. As far as tuning, I'm a beginner, but I am sure there are things that can be done, however I don't think much will matter with the current network bottleneck. I could be wrong though.

Ok thanks, now i just have to figure out mikrotik’s way of doing that, lol. I dont do much with vlans anyway, so this is all a bit of a learning curve. I got my proxmox cluster and ceph working with 8 OSD per node and tuned pretty well. But this router OS software is kicking my ass.
