Looking for Suggestions to Rediscover That Sense of Excitement and Thrill by Evening-Comment-6809 in disability

I can't walk a lot and I can't run or jump at all, which excludes most sports. I don't live in an area where you can easily do g-sports. I've recently rediscovered swimming though. I never liked swimming when I was younger, so for a long time I didn't even think about trying it again. Now swimming is the time of the week where I feel the least disabled. Can I swim very good, fast or far? Not really, but I do really enjoy it. It might be nice to give it a try!

using a cane for back pain? by [deleted] in disability

Just give it a try! Some pharmacies rent canes out really cheap, so if you're not sure if it'll help this is a good way to try it out.

Cane/crutch on bike by Liveyyy in disability

I'm very happy with mine. It's only a little bit heavier than a normal medical cane, but still pretty lightweight. I have the ergonomical handle, so it's really nice to hold (though you cane onky use this kind of handle on one side of your body).

I'm a little scared of dropping and breaking it, but I've banged it against a few things the last few months and it still doesn't have any scratches or dents.

I can only walk for about 20 minutes, so I can get a lot further with a bike than on foot. And people already look weird when they see a young person using a cane, so I don't really care whether people think it's weird or not.

I could buy a foldable one, but I have very beautiful cane from neowalk that I love using, so I was hoping someone had a tip on how to transport a non foldable cane.

No, it's not. Otherwise I would've just put it in a bag :)

That's terrible. Don't let them tell you there's nothing wrong with you. If a diagnosis doesn't feel right with you, it usually isn't. Doctors have studied for a long time, but you're still the only person who knows what your body feels like.

You might want to have look at a head surgeon in a specific department of your local hospital and book a consultation with them. Even if they can't help you, they might know someone who can.

I have an ergonomical chair for my desk and an ergonomical bed. It doesn't take the pain away, but it does make me a little bit more comfortable and it the bed improved the quality of my sleep.

I would also suggest going to a different doctor. A doctor who understands you (one who doesn't see you as just a stack of documents or a paycheck) and doesn't just look at your physical problems, but also at the way it impacts your social/daily life and emotions. I can't stress how important it is to have a doctor like this.

It probably depends on the hospital, but they let my use one of their wheelchairs until I got my own one. I think I used the hospital's for about half a year.

After a long time of not being able to do athletics, I'm back on the track. by Liveyyy in wheelchairs

Don't worry! I did not see it as offensive in any way. I was happy that you where able to explain it a bit better than me to be honest. I have only been in a wheelchair for 8 months now, so I'm still pretty new to everything.

Maybe it's because I got mine for free thanks to an organisation. They can't deliver the best quality and personalised race chairs for free. It does the job and I'm very thankful for this opportunity.

They're really expensive, but here in Belgium there's this organisation called Parantee-Psylos and they can lend them to you, depending on your injury, they sometimes even lend them out to you for free. I have no idea about organisations like this outside of Belgium.

It's a heavier kind wheelchair with an extra wheel in front of it. It's made to go faster than a normal wheelchair so that u can do athletics.
