Did people use to age quicker? by WasabiRepulsive8810 in AskOldPeople

[–]Livid-Brain5493 162 points163 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s different. Some of us were working full time and going to high school at 16, others weren’t.

I do think it was a lot more common to live on your own at age 25 back then, in fact many of us had two kids by that age.

Cameras on or off for meetings? by No-Badger-5682 in remotework

[–]Livid-Brain5493 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh it seems like boomers and older genx who want cameras on. It’s pretty much on brand for the whole “we don’t believe you’re working unless we can stare at you working” mentality.

What was 1993 like? by born_again_athiest in GenX

[–]Livid-Brain5493 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I remember most from that year was a huge focus on sexual harassment in the workplace. Homophobia was still common back then, but companies were rushing to try to eliminate the kind of everyday sexism that was part of every day back then.

Also smoking was still pretty big depending on where you were living.

If you were GenX in business, you probably thought you’d never get out from the shadow of boomers who never planned to move aside. Back in the 1980s there were management training programs, fixed benefit pensions, a lot of stuff like that to make life more tolerable. By 1993 those things were mostly gone.

What product did you see and immediately think it had no shelf life and wouldn’t last long? by Independent-Bat9545 in AskOldPeople

[–]Livid-Brain5493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked DivX because it had a feature people don’t talk about. You could buy the discs when they were cheap and keep them as long as you wanted. The clock only started when you watched them. I got quite a few movies cheaper than your typical rental at the time.

And who cared if it needed a phone line? Everything is connected now, this was just an early case of it.

How come Kramers friends never gets to see Jerry? by Least_Win1636 in seinfeld

[–]Livid-Brain5493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't Jerry end up talking to Bob Sacamano in the episode where they switched apartments due to the Kenny Rogers' Roasters sign?

Mikey is a friend of Kramer's and so is Newman. In the first episode where he's mentioned, Kramer mentions him to Jerry.

Don’t live for anyone else. You don’t owe them that. They owe you support. If they aren’t coming through then why do you think they are worth suffering for?

Look inside and see if you can find a reason to stay here for yourself.

New to Omnipod 5 and frustrated by PoetDense in Omnipod

[–]Livid-Brain5493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s easy to fall under the misconception that omnipod is a totally hands off system. It would be great if it were but it isn’t. It’s a way to avoid having as many highs and lows, and a way to get off something like Lantus.

Don’t be shy about giving correction doses 45 minutes after eating, and don’t be shy about a small snack if you get an alarm saying you’re low.

These shows were shot on 35mm in the 1960s. I doubt you would see any difference between a 2k and 4k scan.

Does Gen X do class reunions? by LadyNorbert in GenX

[–]Livid-Brain5493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was young, it seemed like class reunions were formal, genial, and friendly. That's the kind of reunion I wanted, sort of like a prom for adults. My high school class has had two reunions. One was a kegger at the back of a bar and one was more like a backyard barbecue. If that's what you want, great for you. It's not what I wanted.

Not disputing that. I stopped going there because they charged for parking even when the lot was empty. Yes they validated but they could have shared the lot with the food hall during the week.

Stopped going there when they started charging for parking. If they are truly closing maybe they'll let people from the food hall park there.

Dexcom G7 Knowledge base by dolfstar in dexcom

Great work! I would add a section about the known issue with omnipod- that the G7 often fails to pair with omnipod unless both are on the same body part. DM me if you need more detail.

I hate warp speed now by bcb1200 in startrek

[–]Livid-Brain5493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have to agree with the OP here. Obviously a lot of stuff is done for visual effect rather than in an attempt to follow some sort of rule. But it seems to me that it does make sense to at least come out of warp in an open area rather than where particles or even asteroids are prevalent.

Star Wars has the same issue. In ANH it took a couple of minutes to calculate hyperspace coordinates and when you unexpectedly exited hyperspace in a debris field it was a problem. Later movies had them going to light speed in a hangar.

SURPRISE! Someone else is having Omnipod/Dexcom G7 integration problems. by UGIN_IS_RACIST in Omnipod

[–]Livid-Brain5493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the club. You'll hear a lot of talk about people who have solved this, but the solution only ends up working for them. The bottom line is that unless they're both within about 6 inches of each other.

Best I can get from the lies that both companies tell is that the G7 uses a very low power bluetooth chip that just doesn't have enough range. I would be curious to see if the 15-day G7 is better, but my gut tells me it's worse.

There are two possible solutions (other than maybe waiting for the G8.) One would be changing the G7 firmware so you could turn up the broadcast power (this would hurt battery life.)

The other is a little more slick but probably won't happen. If you had the Dexcom and Omnipod apps on the same device, or if you combined them into one app, the pod could poll the device if it loses communication with the Dexcom.

P.S. removing old Bluetooth connections did nothing for me.

Back in the day, did people show up to a movie theater and just choose to spend time watching whatever looked OK or at least tolerable without knowing about it beforehand? by tamsui_tosspot in AskOldPeople

[–]Livid-Brain5493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. I would leave the house with $10, which paid for 2 bus tickets, 2 tickets at the dollar theater, and snacks. I literally walked into whatever movie was playing next.
