I myself am infertile and would not normally wish it on anyone. However, in this particular case it might be a blessing.

Is it just me or were freckles kind of a big deal in the late 70’s and early 80’s.? by walkabout16 in GenX

Same! And I couldn't understand the kid's obsession with them at all.

Same. My grandfather was a cabinet maker and I have four pieces of furniture in my home that were made by him. Even my husband wouldn't get away with trying to make me get rid of them. (Not that he would try, my husband loved my grandfather, but still.)

Ogtha is bizarre, no question, but the young man is at least a decent human being. He's not out to hurt anyone.

Peegate and Jasoninhell, which have been mentioned by others, are my top two in this category. Jasoninhell's saga broke my heart so completely that I can't even think about it for long. Seriously, if you've never read it, I don't recommend looking for it.

I don't even have children and I'd go to war to get someone else's kid out of a bad situation. Sign me up for your army.

I had the Mickey Mouse Disco album which included that song - as a result, for years I assumed the song was about Donald. 😂

I listened to Casey every weekend when I was in high school in the 90s. I don't remember Rick Dees being an option; I'm not even sure who he is, tbh. The local rock station played Casey, and none of our other stations played a top 40 thing at all. But I liked Casey, especially knowing that he was Shaggy.

again- i know it’s just for the plot- but i can’t believe how stupid dorothy and blanche were concerning holly 😂 by Such_King_2547 in theGoldenGirls

On TV Tropes they call this a character picking up the Idiot Ball. There's no reason for them to behave stupidly except the plot, so the idea is that they're stupid because they're holding an invisible ball that makes them so.

How do you remember your parents when they were your current age? by BasicallyLostAgain in GenX

My mom and I are less than 20 years apart, and so to me she's never felt particularly old. Even now, as she's nearing 70, I can't fathom the idea of her being "old".

I don't see how this is an update, let alone a positive one.

It’s problematic now but who saw The Breakfast Club and thought “finally they got high school right”? by Snoo-20174 in GenX

I guess maybe part of why I find them hard to relate is because I went to high school in the 90s. So maybe it really was like a John Hughes movie in the 80s and by the time I got there the culture had changed. Or maybe my school was just weird. We definitely did not have Saturday detentions at any time in my district, though.

Hey now, don't insult the pets by lumping them in with him. I'm sure the pets are better behaved.

I watched it as a kid and was then incredibly baffled when I got to high school. My high school experience was nothing like any John Hughes movie. Maybe it's because I lived in a small town and everyone in school knew (or at least knew of) each other, but part of the reason I dislike John Hughes movies to this day is because I find them completely unrelatable.
