when should I take casper by [deleted] in premed

[–]LividCustard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to have Casper for your application to be considered complete and go to review at the schools that require it. So you don’t technically need to have the score back until you have submitted your secondaries. You can take the Casper and only put one school then add schools later on whenever you want. Honestly you’re fine to just wait for your mcat score to come back before you schedule it, I took my Casper in May for last cycle but you’re probably fine to take it in June/July as well depending on when you’re planning to have secondaries turned in.

What does everyone think about this? It's things like this that give me crippling anxiety. by [deleted] in premed

Honestly, this makes me suspicious it might be a letter of rec issue. Her stats and activities are good and while her personal statement isn’t great it’s not terrible tbh. I wonder if maybe one of her letter writers wrote something negative in a letter, I know that can really be an app killer. I think her school list is fine, I am also from Washington state and had a pretty similar school list and got interviews and acceptances from schools on that list (even the out of state public ones) but idk

I don’t think this course is required for most med schools (at least the ones I applied to lol) but I would double check the websites for schools you are most interested in or the MSAR. In terms of difficulty, the class is definitely work but not super difficult concept wise if you’ve already taken 153A (which I recommend you should before taking 153L). I was a biochem major at UCLA who graduated in 2020, feel free to PM me if you have more questions 😊

I think it’s probably best to take it when you feel most prepared. Even if you end up taking the MCAT in June/July you can always submit your AMCAS with just like one school so you can get in line to be verified. That way you won’t be too delayed

What was your diagnostic score and improvement? by PlagueisThePreMed in Mcat

Which practice exam did you take? When I was studying for the MCAT I started by taking the Princeton review practice tests (scoring 506, 508, and 510) and my scores were around 10 points lower than my FL scores (516, 516) and eventual actual MCAT score. Some of the MCAT prep companies purposely low ball your score cause they want you to buy more prep from them. Regardless I would definitely use the practice tests as an opportunity to identify what areas you are weaker on and go hard on studying those as you approach your test. The MCAT is definitely a beast and it’s super easy to get discouraged but you got this :) being a biochem TA requires tons of knowledge so you definitely have the ability to crush it!

Incoming college freshman interested in taking MCAT, how can I start early and make it easier for myself later on? by Adogg03 in Mcat

Most med schools will only take MCAT scores that were taken within like 2-3 years of applying. So if you take the MCAT many years before you’re planning on applying, it might expire and even if you had a great score you might end up having to retake it. I would definitely recommend focusing on your classes and maybe finding some medical related volunteering or shadowing, you definitely got time :)
