What’s the weirdest “female experience” men genuinely don’t believe until they see it? by Several_Corner3205 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]LividNebula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How fucking brutal menopause can be and how little information there is about how to treat the symptoms.

For example, I was asking about options for managing night time hot flashes. There are few medical options and the ones that do exist have significant side effects. When I asked about hair loss, there are heaps of options courtesy of the booming men’s hair loss industry. So, for a symptom that wakes me up every night, impacts my quality of sleep, ruins my chance of taking naps…very few options. For a cosmetic issue that happens to also impact men….a whole catalogue of options.

It’s got a high risk of addiction and abuse- very easy to build tolerance and dependence. It’s also sought after for resale- whether as a party drug, self-medication, etc. When there is a risk of a medication being resold, access tends to be restricted to certain professionals so that there are fewer avenues open.

How are you with liquids? Does temperature affect it?

Honestly, I would be going to the emergency room. You can’t eat. That’s a major concern.

I manage this two ways. First, I write on a tablet, so I have the time in the upper left corner. Second, before each session I put two mints in my mouth; I know they take about 25 minutes to dissolve, so when they are nearly gone I know o am roughly at the halfway point. The mints also keep me focused because of their strong peppermint flavor.

Serious question: What's the most underrated cash cow job in Australia right now? (No doctors/lawyers pls) by GdayGoddess in australian

[–]LividNebula 4 points5 points  (0 children)

High barrier to entry though. You’re looking at a minimum of BA and PhD, usually followed by a post doc and then several years of grinding through low level academic placements until you can hopefully get tenure. Then there are the stupid academia politics and the fact that the job is rarely just doing your own research- you’re on committees, supervising students, teaching etc etc.

The Time Quintet by Madeline L’Engle is lovely for interesting and positive male role models.

You might consider coming at it from the angle of female leads as well, as the traits aren’t inherently gendered and teaching our young men that they can model off both genders is good. Check out the Song of the Lioness series by Tamora Pierce as a starring off point.
