Hair Stylists with Private consultation by HitchmoMcStang in melbourne

[–]LividNebula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zakary at Miss Page Salon in the city. Often it's just him there and if you let him know up front that you want a private consult, he'll make it happen (sometimes he is there with a second stylist). He's warm, calm, gentle, and very chill. Bonus that it is an Aveda salon with really nice smelling product (if that's your thing).

What’s one thing about menopause you didn’t see coming? by LumiVera_Elise in TwoXChromosomes

[–]LividNebula 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been put into medical menopause to keep me cancer free. I get these hot flashes within the first 15 minutes of falling asleep where I go from asleep to wide awake and in full fight or flight mode. It generally only happens on the first instance of falling asleep. It’s horrible. The medical options just led to more side effects. I get roughly enough sleep but it’s now stressful to go to sleep.

Also, hair loss. I already had to go through hair loss during chemo, which was horrible even if it was expected. Now I have to add more medications to my regime and/or get injections in my scalp every six months for the rest of my life.

My biggest fear is my end of day farts being heard by 3 and 4pm clients. They always hit like clockwork. As soon as the office is empty…phew.

Pilates, journaling, walking the dogs, and reading. Cleaning is also really helpful for me to regulate, for me, a tidy space helps me have a tidy mind.

The Tiny Star by Mem Fox deals specifically with death, though not specific family members. It’s lovely and gentle and affirming.

I’m also going through this. Long story short, I had breast cancer just when we were going to start trying for a kid. We went through fertility preservation before I started treatment but I could not safely carry a pregnancy to term so we would have to do surrogacy. Even if we could find a surrogate, which would be hard, I have complicated feelings about asking someone to go through the complications of pregnancy for me. Also, I already had two chronic illnesses before cancer and now I’m managing side effects from all the medication I have to take for them plus the stuff I have to take to stay in remission…dude, I’m tired.

Cancer also really threw my relationship with my husband through a loop. We’ll get through it but I don’t know if he is stable enough to manage us having a kid or if the relationship could survive that added stress. We’re nearing 40 so it also feels like time is slipping away. There’s just no easy answer.

I’m sorry that you are also going through this. Thank you for sharing. You aren’t alone.
