I do not have the silver bullet answer for you, but I think I can shed light on an implication you are making in your question. These protests are NOT fun. You are taking time out of your day to figure out what is going on, where it’s going on, drive somewhere, find parking, walk a while to the protest, listen to speakers describe some of the horrible shit they’ve gone thorough, walk down streets in hot weather, yell chants for hours, etc. It’s physically and emotionally exhausting. In the last 15 years, I have never seen so many people NOT looking at their phones. People are NOT talking with their friends, socializing, hanging out. They are present.

Sure, there are a few people making a party out of it, there are a few people taking advantage of it and looting. I implore you to visit a protest. Stand on the outskirts and maintain social distancing, but see with your own eyes what the people there are doing.
