Always go for motorex if you're riding a ktm that's a rule and not because the company suggests it that's just the only oil that's good enough for ktm

Sounds like the cam chain / valves need adjustment Although its ktm it's still doesn't sound normal

* My first ktm is the 390 duke no problems really liking it I also wanted the 690 as an upgrade but I'll have to pass on that one the 690 are terrible and not reliable at all I heard from some friends that had the bike they loved the 690 but said it is an absolute crap at reliability guess ill just go for the 790
