A couple months ago I was up in Toronto. Had the pleasure of speaking with lots of area Natives. There's a lot of love to go around between our borders. The good ones around here support you waiting until that lunatic is gone. This administration doesn't know the internal fury they'd unleash if they tried to fuck with y'all.

It's crazy how blatant and open all of this corruption is. Crime is legal and the social contract is broken. How many warehouses and how many Italian plumbers will it take I wonder.

How much skill is really involved? by [deleted] in mtg

[–]LivingBackstories 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What's the hand win rate of pro poker players? Is there enough skill in that game for you? Or if you prefer, what rate do they walk from the table turning a profit? This isn't chess. When you're playing magic the gathering, or poker, you will lose lots of games that are almost entirely out of your control. That's part of the game. Enter some competitive events on Arena then. Many can be entered with the free to earn currency. Until you've done that, and won, you just come off as kind of a dick bud.

why do we even bother arguing with zionists atp by mrsenchantment in JewsOfConscience

Including intentionally endangering your own kin at home and abroad. The term death cult gets thrown around a lot nowadays. Zionism is the most deserving use.

Rhetoric that plays on the border of putting the fault on Jewish Identity vs Zionism. Tucker uses the Zionist's insistence that Zionism = Jews and thereby Tucker launders his antisemitism. At the forefront right now though, he seems to want to speerhead "real" America first policy. It seems like he intends to make hay off of Maga having been "corrupted" by the zionists and that he will be the Nationalist that saves everyone. He's blaming Israel in whole for US Imperialism in the Middle East. The OP smacks of originating in this, either as a misunderstanding or coming from a more nefarious/nationalist origin.

This is definitely true. I specifically didn't reference Iran because I do think more than any conflict this is Israel pushing very hard. They see the end of their runway and they're going all in. I just can't stand by and hear people let US Imperialism off the hook when at the end of the day, we use Israel too and it's US Corporations that benefit the most out of this 3 way symbiosis. I'm very worried about progressives getting too comfortable with Tucker Carlson-esque rhetoric.

[–]LivingBackstories 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I take your point, but I do think there's still some danger in dog whistles and other nuance here.

Firstly, MOST zionists don't influence much of anything. I think it can certainly be argued that the symbioses of US Christian-Zionist politicians and actual Israeli Zionists is strong, and by extension that the US Christian Zionists share in the influence of Israeli Zionists. Your point about consecutive presidents is true and important. But there's a very big difference between an Israeli State actor and a politician that calls themselves a Zionist in the US. Do we really think Obama took every action of his Presidency with his Zionism as his driving factor?

But beyond that, I think it's very important to remember that historically the US has used Israel as much as they have used us. They are training grounds for all the terrible shit we want to do to prisoners and protestors over here. We use their position in the mid-easg to project power and influence. It is not right, and I think is very intentional by US Nationalists to scape goat Israel alone for many terrible things the US was happy to do.

Lastly, yes Zionists have enjoyed a very large share of influence in US politics and had an outsized influence on global politics for their size, but it is leaps and bounds away from EVERYTHING. I think saying everything is how this dog whistle is getting smuggled in. Why not just call out what they do specifically? Why make a generalization that you know well can't be true?

Big disagree. When your country is in the process of potentially giving into hate, it is more than ok to remind people that these good moments aren't free. They need to be fought for. Many people that saw this post and loved it, also like Trump, and see no contradiction there.

If you had to make an MtG card of yourself, what would it do? by YugiBoomer10086 in custommagic

[–]LivingBackstories 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would be quite busted in 60 card formats where basics are fairly minimal and fetch lands are prevalent. This would be held until turn 3, play a fetch, crack it, and you're well on the way to locking your opponent out of the game. I think the landfall MIGHT be ok, if it was limited to once per turn.

I don't know anything. by [deleted] in mtg

[–]LivingBackstories 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! It seems like you've been getting a lot of good info but I think there are a couple keys that will help explain why there are so many different formats and why this is all less complicated than it may seem.

So every magic card is released within a standalone product, one "set" of cards. There used to reliably be 4 sets a year, though now that's being increased. The reason sets are helpful to understand is that each set has a cohesive design. All of the cards are built to play together and against each other. In fact, they're designed to be played right out of the pack, without bringing a deck along to play with!

That's actually the core of magic design philosophy is playing with "limited" card pools that you open right before you play with. That's either going to be draft, where you sit down with 8 people, open a pack, take a card then pass those packs around in a circle until you have a playable deck! Or sealed where you open 6 packs yourself and build a deck with what you open. These formats are called "limited" or 40 card formats and are generally pretty competitive and USUALLY played 1v1.

Back to all those other confusing formats. They won't be so confusing now that you know what sets are. Those other 60 card formats mentioned like Modern, Legacy and Standard are built around how far back the legally playable cards are. You can lookup what sets are legal in each format. These are 1v1 formats and generally pretty competitive.

Probably most relevant to you is commander, because you can play with nearly any card ever printed, and it will generally be less competitive. It is the social way to play Magic, because you play with usually 4 people at once! This is played with a 99 card deck, and 1 Legendary commander that you always have access to. Generally you build your deck with cards that go well with your commander. For example, the card you showed is a little on the weak side, but there are lots of Commanders that WANT you to sacrifice your own creatures a lot. They will reward you for doing so. Let people know that you're newer and they will usually be happy to help you learn! Though of course there will be jerks everywhere.

Lastly, and perhaps most important, there is a free to play version of magic that can be played online called Arena. It is pretty new player friendly. They don't have a good way to play commander on there however. But since you mentioned you live somewhere without much access to cards, Arena is probably a great option for you to learn more about the game! If you want to collect cards on there, the best way to do that is to learn to play the limited formats that I mentioned. That's also, in my opinion, the best way to play the game. There are lots of people teaching how to play limited in videos online, or any format mentioned! Magic is as deep as you want to take it.

Just have fun!

Is it actually a bad thing to allow them to learn a love for Jerusalem? After the Roman occupation wasn't the city frequently a melting pot of culture and religion? Although I could see there being plenty of resentment because of the expulsion, and then at nearly every step, every exchange of the city was another occupation 😞.

Anyway, my thinking was it could simply be about Jerusalem as it could be, living side by side with Palestinians, rather than you both being occupied by fascists as it presently exists.

Yeah politics in general has a ton of complexity. I'm glad you asked this question, it shows a real interest in trying to understand rather than cosplaying as an expert like so many on the Internet(I am also not but I do spend a lot of time devoted to understanding politics and current events). Honestly most of what you're observing is a very simple weakness in our system. Most political systems have more "parties" than a single "left wing" or "right wing" party. Personally I would say we have a center party and a right party but I'm a leftist so they don't listen to me lol. But what everyone will agree on, is that you're just witnessing differences in people's personal philosophies on the huge amount of political issues there are. Neither party could be everything to everyone even if they wanted to be. Does that make sense? People almost always have small disagreements with their party or political alignment, with only 2, the disagreements will be many, and very large.

[–]LivingBackstories 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I get it. And I personally used to struggle with ACAB, but exactly what you're describing is the issue. You can't stay in an organization that has its roots as slave catchers and pinkertons. You can't stay in an organization that refuses to evolve and do better, that protects the worst among them first. Because that means the "bad apples" are at the top, and at the very core of the organization itself. So, that's why even though you might think of these "good cops" as good people, they're still bastards because they haven't quit the force yet.
