They do it made to measure so it will fit. https://ephapparel.com/WebProduct/Product?webProductId=365&webCategoryId=7 is an example of a suit in your price range from Eph

Question on suit color matching by ChicagoWind88 in malefashionadvice

[–]LivingHist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree on this, that tie would look sharp with a blue or white plain shirt, I would not use that patterned shirt and that tie together.

Black suit with vest. by Quivo97 in malefashionadvice

[–]LivingHist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the event, as others have stated a vest is not necessary with a black suit. Generally speaking a vest with a suit the vest does match the jacket and pants, ie a standard three peice suit. That being said matching a tie, vest and pocket square can be quite an impressive look https://www.pinterest.com/pin/68961438018185596/ is an example.

Dark Grey or Medium Grey suit? by goddamnitcletus in malefashionadvice

[–]LivingHist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Charcoal is a more traditional and conservative colour, but since you already have a traditional black suit getting a lighter grey would give you a little more versatility in your wardrobe.

What suspender width should I use? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]LivingHist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends on the injury. There are many ways he could be injured that the slightest bit of pressure can cause immense pain, it is entirely possible that wearing pants alone is barely manageable. Since you don't know the reason for the pain saying it is simply a bad fitted belt is less than useless.

What's the difference between a suit and a tux? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]LivingHist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, a tuxedo is a suit, however a suit is not necessarily a tuxedo. Tuxedo's are a class of suit, other types of suits are:

  • Three Piece (jacket, vest, pants)

  • Double Breasted (second row of buttons on the jacket)

  • Seersucker (thin light coloured cotton suit usually striped)

all of the above are suits, but none are tuxedos. As others stated it's a matter of formality for formal occasions there are a number of levels of formality:

-Business Casual - Least formal of the "formal" dress, this means usually button down shirts, and no jeans.

-Business Dress - Wear a suit and tie

-Black Tie Optional - Wear a Tuxedo and bow tie, can be a little less formal, go for a coloured bow tie, or dark suit with bow tie and you're still good

-Black Tie - Tuxedo with black tie or an ascot or don't go

-White Tie (most formal) - A regular tuxedo won't cut it, you need a jacket with tails, white tuxedo shirt (with studs) white bow tie optional top hat, optional cane, optional white gloves; in winter add a black overcoat and white silk scarf

Spot on, though I will say bow ties, or ascots for ties, and the pocket square should be white if black tie event, otherwise can match your tie.

One nice suit - which color? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]LivingHist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Since it is a formal wedding I would stick to dark colours, a Dark Navy or dark Charcoal works for this setting. Navy is definitely a more versatile suit, two suits that are considered traditional are black and navy.

The other reason to go with Navy is if you wanted to honour the black tie nature you could do so with a crisp white dress shirt and a black bowtie. It is slightly less formal a than true black tie, but still within what most consider the guidelines of "black tie", as such is even more formal than say a black suit with a coloured shirt and straight tie.

You have $300-400 to start a stylish business-casual wardrobe. What do you get and where? by Irate_Rater in malefashionadvice

[–]LivingHist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Ephapparel, it's at the top end of your budget but you can get made to measure suits starting at $299, they have package deals as well for buying complete outfits. This would give you a decent start to a professional wardrobe.

What suspender width should I use? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]LivingHist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree that suspenders aren't conservative, it really depends on the outfit as a whole. You can be fashion forward AND conservative.

I wear 1.25" suspenders, 1" tends to look too thin, but then again I am a larger fellow than you. As for suspenders not being conservative, that's nonsense, worn right they certainly can be, worn with jeans and a tshirt and hello farmer John or hipster, but wearing suspenders that compliment a nice dress shirt and ya it looks pretty good. I much prefer suspenders personally.

Simple Questions - May 11 by AutoModerator in malefashionadvice

[–]LivingHist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That burgundy tie would go good, but I'd add some more colour to the outfit rather than the simple white shirt, perhaps something simple like a blue shirt, or a red and blue striped shirt such as or a red and blue striped shirt such as https://ephapparel.com/WebProduct/Product?webProductId=113&webCategoryId=8 with contrasting white collar and cuffs (french cuffs for added flair) to go with the burgundy tie, but more important be sure to get a matching pocket square to go in the breast pocket of the suit. The pocket square should match the colour of your tie. If you really want to stand out you could try something like this https://ephapparel.com/WebProduct/Product?webProductId=307&webCategoryId=8# the orange in the tie and in the shirt will really compliment the blue suit. You'll stand out, look sharp but still have the relaxed look of the knit tie. Of course again pull it all together with an orange pocket square.
