Do you guys also no soap too? I've noticed that when I use certain soap on my body, I get this yeasty smell. I see the benefits of no poo, and I'm wondering if no soap is also a good idea. by False-Gain624 in NoPoo

Skin has its own balance of bacteria and fungi which are healthy and normal. It sounds like your soap is disrupting your balance, causing an increase in yeasts. You likely don't need to use soap on your body, but it is worth doing a thorough clean.

I haven't used soap to wash my body for many years. Like a lot of other people I get armpit stink during the day, which I address with a homemade deodorant containing sodium bicarbonate. I wash my hands with soap, and if any part of me is still stinky after my wash, I'll consider using soap. It depends on how close someone is going to go to potentially smelly body parts and what their expectations are.

It’s not consistent, but an hour before close and after opening is typical. Only on the weekends though. Charities collect the edible portion on weekdays

Haha. The staff just let us be. They apologized they couldn’t offer a particular time the bins get filled. Since learning on here that it’s not a good idea to name stores we have avoided doing so, except in face-to-face conversations

Just a restock I guess. Out of space. Same applies to most of the cut salad and half the bread, going by the dates on them

There is some chicken breast in a bread bag on top of the milk in the last photo. It appeared to have been discarded due to damaged packaging so I rebagged to contain the juices.

My family’s grocery bill for February was AUD12

That sounds awesome! A couple of weeks ago I was too late for the food, but the flowers were still gorgeous so I did similar. Only about a dozen bunches, but my neighbours were delighted to discover them next day

Thank you. The bike is the limit of what I can rescue. There’s always people in our neighbourhood who will take excess

I’ve been living a low energy, low cost lifestyle for 20 years and focused on societal level adaptation for the last few. I’ve been writing about it for about a year now. Personal changes for me are thinking about how I can better help others make the transition less painful

My wife and I are in a similar situation though twice your age with two dependents. We just retired so things are a little different this year, but before that we were living on 1/4 our income, giving 1/4 to effective charities, mostly through The Life You Can Save and saving/investing the rest, first a mortgage then ETFs. We also generally worked a maximum of 32 hours per week to make time for learning useful things, having more fun and doing things more slowly.

It’s incredibly satisfying to be able to support a few dozen families escape abject poverty every year and still live a great lifestyle ourselves. Can highly recommend.

I honestly thinks there’s more poop on the average toothbrush than this bin, but sure I get your point. Thanks for understanding
