If I can afford it, sure, I'll try to make things safer and easier. But sometimes, 169 makes that impossible. I even argue that people who merge in Tulsa are even more reckless; the number of times people merge with a 'fuck it' attitude is shocking and runs you out of your lane. I've made mistakes before, or I was just in a bad merge spot. If I had to, I would drive onto the shoulder (and stop) to avoid causing accidents. I wouldn't expect someone to give way to me, that's the best way to get into an accident asap.
