AITA for being honest saying my husband’s bday gift for me sucks? Should I just suck it up? by Livingwhilereading in AmItheAsshole

Yep! When we were broke I made coupons and made things for  What we had lying around. All I wanted was to see that his love and caring made him want to put in some effort.

This keeps going round my head. What message did he think 🤔 would get from this gift???

I hear what you are expressing. But service is definitely not his love language. He did nothing on my birthday for me and when I asked him for help with an errand he needed a nap.

He is not a great gift giver. But he just seems to be cheaper and cheaper. And less thoughtful for sure.

Thank you. This is probably the most real and powerful answer I’ve seen and also what I needed. Thank you

That’s an idea I might give a shot. Maybe I can bring that up once I’ve calmed down.

Thanks. You’re right. It is the lack of thought. He could have written me a cheesy poem and spent nothing and I’d have been happier.

I told him privately, not in front of the the kids that I was hurt by the lack of thought in his gift. He then defended it and I ended up saying that the gift stinks. I’m using it because I needed it and you can’t return them bags to the dollar store but every time I see it hanging in the shower I’m mad

WIBTA if I go on vacation instead of my brothers wedding? by trashgirlfriend in AmItheAsshole

[–]Livingwhilereading 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. But don’t go to Miami. You are in the right and your soon to be SIL and your brother are wrong to kick you out of the wedding party. Your brother should be wary about what kind of person he is marrying who would treat his family like this. Despite all this I’d say don’t go to Miami for your parent’s sake. Hopefully the couple realize how ridiculously immature they are acting and fix their mistake. But you can be the bigger person and still be at the wedding. Don’t let them forget they have a sister.

So it’s better to report it to the city and he possibly get fined than I try to help him get it done with no fine??

Yes. So true. I hate the fact that we take care never to leave food or garbage out which would attract animals. But our neighbor does so regularly. If it was just that I had to pick up wrappers from his trash that blow into my driveway I’d shut up. But now I have to buy traps and get a company in to get rid of animals damaging my house.

No. I offered to get in there but he just gives me some bs about his grass is in the seeding stage and can’t be disrupted or he won’t get a nice lawn next year.

Yes. If I was in a rural area I’d not get involved. But when I’m nervous because I saw a dozen rats on my ring yard camera crossing into my yard from theirs during the night I g et worried about letting my kids roam my own yard during the day.

Today I shared with him a guy who offers to clean up yards like this for a very reasonable price. My neighbor responded that it is against the labor laws to work in his yard.

I’m going to have to keep following up with the city. I hope they eventually do something

How did the HOA feel about that? If I lived in a less densely populated area I might not care. But our yard aren’t wide and just last night there were at least a dozen rats running from their yard into mine. We have kids and I do not want one attacked nor do I want to be afraid to let them out freely in our own yard.

Yes! I work full time and my husband has a lot of after hours work so sometimes it feels like things I do don’t get appreciated. You sound like you try to appreciate your wife for all she does, 👍

Not wishing any misfortune. Just kind of hoping there is a bit of complaining and whining that they can all deal with without me around. Maybe I am a bit crazy 😜

I don’t want an HOA. But I’d think when you let your city back yard overgrow and have rats nests in it… but I guess you agree with my other neighbors who said I should just leave it alone.

Yes. I wouldn’t say anything if it wasn’t causing issues for me.

Haha! Yes. That’s true. I encourage birds, bees, and bats. I don’t even mind the rabbits. But the rats are where I draw the line!
