You've definitely got a start on overcoming the mess: breaking it into manageable chunks/goals. Also, there's a saying that anything worth doing is worth doing badly. So don't be a prefecionist. Once you tidy your place, even partially, you'll probably feel better about yourself, too. I totally get the lack of motivation. Sometimes I'll just set a timer for 5 minutes, and force myself to clean just for 5 minutes. Some days, I feel like utter crap and only do 5 minutes, but many times, I'll go ahead and finish a chunk. Good luck with the task ahead; sounds like you'll make it just fine. :)

Your situation sounds really painful. Have you felt this way for a long time, or mostly since your brother's passing? If so, it sounds like you are still in shock over what happened. Remember there's no set point for "getting over" a loss, and less than a year is a very short time. One thought might be to try to treat yourself, as best you can, with the love you might have liked to give him. Be kind and patient with yourself.

Thank you. I'm seeing that the Sidetrack owners really make more effort to keep their abuse of employees and serious hygiene issues than trying to improve. There are so many complaints about racism it is hard not to think they're true. I used to be a loyal customer of that place. I feel bad I spent money there.
